  1. Most Internet forums have a core consisting of small number of prolific poster, along with a large number of lurkers / occasional poster. This is a fact of Internet life and the GC UK forum is no different. That said, I have not seen anything to indicate that new / occasional posters are unwelcome.
  2. I used the i3 when I first stared caching and I would not recommend it. That said, it was great for driving to the cache. I used to enter the parking coordinates in Lat / Long As far as entering coordinates is concerned, the only way I found was to download lat / long from the computer. Sorry but I can't tell you how to do this under MS Windows as I am a Linux user.
  3. The problem with changing the name is that all previous find records will have the new name. This really confused me when it happened on one of my TB finds. If you do change the name, I suggest that you make sure that the TB page contains the old name and the reason for the change.
  4. I would like to offer my help with the web-site, if required. Although my expertise is more in the area of UNIX scripts/C programming rather than Java / databases.
  5. The problem is that the boundaries between executables and data has become blurred. MS Word files can contain a macro virus and there is even the possibility of a virus in a JPEG (http://www.internetnews.com/dev-news/article.php/1365871). Add to this MS Window's predilection for running files, coupled with the ability to disguise executables as data. Yes a computer literate user won't fall for any of these but not all Geocachers are computer savey.
  6. Are you using Flash Player 9 (released Jan 2007). On my Linux system, this gives a Yes and a No box. This can be downloaded from http://sdc.shockwave.com/shockwave/downloa...rsion=Netscape4 Installation instruction are on the page but if you need any help PM me. Regards Phil
  7. Haven't seen this posted on here, so here it is. http://www.linuxdevices.com/news/NS2870305062.html "According to TomTom, an "isolated number" of Go 910 devices shipped last fall could infect Windows PCs when connected via USB, for example when backing up data to a PC. The company suggests fixing the problem by scanning the device's USB storage from a PC equipped with updated virus-scanning software, including free versions available from Symantec and Kaspersky. "
  8. Under the UK Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations it is illegal for a company to send unsolicited email. However, this assumes no pre-existing relationship. In the OPs case, a prior relationship exists so the company is entitled to send him commercial emails. That said, it is still possible to opt-out of receiving these emails. That's why commercial emails usually contain an opt-out address. As the OP has opted out, he should not be receiving said emails. If you really want to take it that further, try getting in touch with the ICO. See http://www.ico.gov.uk/Home/what_we_cover/p...unications.aspx http://www.ico.gov.uk/Home/complaints/priv...unications.aspx
  9. I haven't noticed any problems. Try this: With scripts disabled search for a lat, long. You get a square map with zoom levels 0, 1 - street, 2,3 -city - 9 on the right hand side off the mao and the N,W,E,S arrows underneath. To get this Google Maps with have constructed a URL with the coordinates as attributes, e.g: http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&f=q&...amp;output=html. Now enable scripts for maps.google.com and remove the "output=html" attribute from the URL, You get a full width map with the N,W,E,S arrows at the top left, a zoom bar beneath it and Map / Satellite / Hybrid at the top right. Removing the "output=html" attribute while scripts are disable with result in it being put back in.
  10. But if you use the NoScript extension you can stop the google-click script (or any other for that matter) from running. Be careful disabling scripts on Google. Google maps appears to work differently depending on whether or not scripts are enabled. Phil
  11. Looks to me like it's getting confused and replacing N. Yorkshire with Hereford and Worcester... Does the same to us too, which is a pain since nearly a third of our caches were done in N. Yorks. B. Looks like the problem is with the "flat" attribute. Compare http://stats.guk2.com/pics/make_countymap....600&found=1 with http://stats.guk2.com/pics/make_countymap....&found=1 Phil
  12. Will a standard standard Serial to USB cable work with a Garmin Etrex? I thought that I read somewhere that Garmin used a non-standard serial port.
