  1. I do have it on trigtools, but no easy GPX export. But www.trigpointinguk.com (as already suggested) itself should work fine
  2. Thanks to Lordelph, I've added this to a conversion webservice: http://www.nearby.org.uk/api/convert-help.php example http://www.nearby.org.uk/api/convert.php?k...t=geohash-wgs84 but can cope with coordinates other that lat/long http://www.nearby.org.uk/api/convert.php?k...t=geohash-wgs84 and the otherway http://www.nearby.org.uk/api/convert.php?k...n=geohash-wgs84 http://www.nearby.org.uk/api/convert.php?k...n=geohash-wgs84 (specify the coordinate to avoid confusion with postcodes) (there is soap wrapper too)
  3. The server doesn't not store the passwords in clear text, only hashed values. (which cant be decoded directly) Which is why the site cant send a forgottten password reminder - only issue a new one.
  4. Its not official yet - but is looking hopeful, the last I heard (but yes T:UK is definitely back)
  5. I can't read that. Clicking the button returns an object error. Table version here that doesnt require Javascript.
  6. just to add my tuppenth worth... Hmm, yes given a choice would opt for Ceremonial (as mentioned here are here: http://www.nearby.org.uk/counties/ but there might be a better list somewhere. It should and accurate list for GB, just the borders themselves are inaccurate) You could go for the modern admistrative geography, but the list is unwieldy, probably unfamiliar, and gerrymandered, http://www.geograph.org.uk/statistics/coverage_by_county.php (if it not clear that list is hte offical list as used by OS maps for GB - sadly missing NI, I dont beleive there are any licencing issues with using that list) See also http://www.nearby.org.uk/geonames/GB-Ontology.php (click the open top 2 levels button) But the least contentious (if such a think is possible) I would say historic counties, as mentioned these are available on www.abcounties.org.uk But the list posted on http://rutson.co.uk/uk/counties.htm seems a good 'usable' list to me. (edited to clarify a few points)
  7. Pretty sure it the Google Maps API Geocoder (edit: yes it definitely is, check the source code!)
  8. But that (probably) won't help in the long term... the advertiser pays for a load of clicks that don't lead anywhere ... realises its not cost effective so either blocks or pulls the adds ... leads to less targeted ads ... people who would actually use the site less likely to use a random ad ... G'speak doesn't get as much revenue ... increases the number of ads ...
  9. Just click the 'Geocaching.com Google Map' in the 'For online maps...' section it goes to the same place as the yahoo map.
  10. See also http://benchmarks.org.uk/bookmarklet.php
  11. One way is to use this saved search I created on GeocacheUK: http://stats.geocacheuk.com/caches/search_view.php?q=223544 From there you can download a file for your GPS - or map it directly on the site etc. This is also another way to map them: http://stats.geocacheuk.com/virtualearth/?q=223544 (with all the usual disclaimers onto the accaucy of the data on GeocachUK)
  12. Thats still there, in the 'Hybrid' option, or at least it was when I last checked a few days ago.
  13. The first (so could work for any travel bug), but sshhh don't tell anyone. I just don't have a host with mysql 4.11 which is needed to support the spatial extensions required for the county lookup - it's also only a quick job, didn't get round to implementing the full resolution lookup.
  14. It's not auto-updating or for that matter embeddable in the page, but it is at least a map It's not auto-updating as don't have a webhost capable of running mysql 4.11+ (yet, hopefully, hint, hint), and drawn as Google map for speed, its not (I think) placeable in a geocaching page - with time could render it as a image so it could be embeded.
  15. It's a deliberate tactic to not 'ruin' the game by giving away the exact location (huh???), or more likely to limit the attractiveness of the Google Earth feed for people trying to harvest coordinates and <real cynic mode>even to make it less attractive to people to use thereby saving on server capacity</end cynic> You are better off just downloading a GPX file (ie Pocket Query) and dropping that into Google Earth - there are programs available to set approriate icons on the file - or you can export from GSAK which has custom exports etc.
  16. My summation on completing the survey for the new layout... "Nice to see a revamp, but nothing particularly new or exciting - looks to just be playing catchup with other providers..." (but would add losing some things that made multimap good, such as OS raster-mapping and grid references....)
  17. Not all are, the concrete 'Hotine' (the most common type, example) are square simply from convenience and easy of making the shuttering. (unless you asking something completely different)
  18. Not any more Thanks to edgy for spotting the actual problem
  19. Enter them into here: http://www.nearby.org.uk/flyto.php This will attempt to understand them, if not will take you to a page that will, and on that page is a link to open the location in Google Earth
  20. Go and download the very latest version (either 3 or recommended 4 Beta) (here), previous versions of Google Earth 4 (beta) are sub-septable to a bug in the information created by Groundspeak, luckily the latest version now copes with the bug (mostly).
  21. Read more about the update here: http://www.gearthblog.com/blog/archives/20...update_for.html
  22. Oh yes, the OS have the data, and do sell it. Sell it being the operative word, to use it on a site like GC you are probably talking in the tens of thousands (a year), meaning its not likely to happen anytime soon... Getting free data sets using the older counties (and probably more desirable IMHO) is possible, but it takes time to process that data (I hear in the new year), as it has to be from maps/data over 50 years old to be out of Crown Copyright... What is definitely possible is for GC to offer a dropdown of UK counties*, to leave it up to the user to select the county. (* but which counties is a whole different story! - in fact this is probably the cause of the delay; if asking my vote is for historic counties) Editing to add links, spelling, and to hopefully make more sense...
  23. Hmm, that is strange I developed it on Firefox (1.5) , (testing on IE of course! & FF2.0). I've noticed that sometimes the caches load off the right of the viewable area, confirm this by viewing the East coast, where it still displays nicly. (this has been confirmed a bug in the Virtual Earth JS, and seems to affect all brwosers equally) Unfortunatly the 3D wont work on FF, but does work on IE.
  24. Agreed, the Interactive Map link on the homepage is next to useless (well it does work, just VERY slowly), just so many caches*! However its very rare you would need the whole UK anyway, you are better doing a specific location search (very flexible input!) and limiting it to say 50km, then click the Interactive Map link on the search results, works brilliantly... Alternatively try the GIS map, not quite as friendly, but should be more usable with the number of caches. A further option is the Virtual Earth map, this has the benefit of plotting caches in a Local Live map, so gets the high resolution (but about 6 years old, before someone complains) aerial photography [even 3D if you lucky enough to have a computer able to run it ] * maybe its time to reintroduce a limit to the number of caches it will display?
