team tisri
I'm struggling to find a web site I found a few days ago. It's about caching, it asked me to choose my geocaching name from a drop-down list and then gave me a UK map with little dots showing the caches I had found. They were colour-coded so I could tell the regulars from the multis Unfortunately I closed my browser before bookmarking the site and now can't find it again. I know it's probably not the best description of the site, but if anyone can point me in the right direction I'd be most grateful! Quote Link to comment

team tisri
Was it http://www.geocacheuk.com/ ? No, not that one. The site I was looking for asked me to select my geocaching name in a drop-down box. Quote Link to comment

+Paul G0TLG
Like this?. G:UK does get you to pick your name from the drop-down box, but the different colours represent owned / found, not multi / other as the OP asked. If you do find that site again, let us all know Quote Link to comment

barryhunter
team tisri, perhaps you still have it your history? If using internet explorer, click the history icon in the toolbar (a clock with a downleft arrow?), you might have to scroll though a load of sites but you might be able to spot it? or in Firefox, goto Go menu and choose history at the bottom. (other browsers would be similar) Quote Link to comment
+Bear and Ragged
Never mind that it killed the cat, I'm curious to know what the website was! The "drop down menu to choose cacher name" rang a bell -but after posting, the "differant colours for cache and multi-cache" didn't ring any bells... Do we get to find out what the site was/is? Please! G Quote Link to comment
team tisri
Looks like it was the GCUK page after all, many thanks to those that suggested it. The map I described can be seen here: http://stats.geocacheuk.com/cachers/view_c...ap.php?c=166436 and shows a little dot for all the caches we've found. Somehow it looks a lot less impressive than the counties map with all the counties coloured in. Quote Link to comment

Counties you've cached in are coloured black to yellow, based on cache count. here's the link... Or here's the same map, but coloured according to the average score you awarded to caches in that county (ie you found lots of duff caches in Hampshire, but a few great ones in Derbyshire ) It's a bit of a work in progress, that I never really progressed! Other maps available are: Average score by county Cache count by county Cache density by county land area Cache density by county population Quote Link to comment

The link above gives, I think, counties you (?) have cached in... You need to find your cacher id. This is the number that GC.com knows you by, and is present in pocket queries and some URLs. Perhaps the easiest way to find it is to log on to G:UK and visit http://stats.geocacheuk.com/cachers/view_cacherstats.php. Scroll to the bottom of the page to find our your id. Yours is 392408, team tisri's is 166436. Once you know that, you can substitute it into the above links eg: http://stats.guk2.com/pics/make_countymap....=count&c=392408 http://stats.guk2.com/pics/make_countymap....=score&c=392408 http://stats.geocacheuk.com/cachers/view_c...ap.php?c=392408 http://stats.geocacheuk.com/caches/flash_map.php?c=392408 http://stats.geocacheuk.com/caches/gis_map.php?c=392408 Hope that helps! If allowed, (and I can work out how - shouldn't be too difficult) I'm going to use a link to these maps on my GC.com profile, rather than having to manually update the counties map when it changes. Is there anywhere with an explanation of the colour codes as well, so I can add that. All due credit and appropriate links will, of course, be included! Quote Link to comment

Credit for the original idea is really due to Moote. I just "embraced and extended", as our friends in Richmond would say If you want a flat colour, you can put eg &flat=ff33cc in the url (replace ff33cc with the hex code for the colour you want). Eg http://stats.guk2.com/pics/make_countymap....831&flat=ffff00 would give you something like Moote's original marnanel map... The colours on the standard map are currently obtained by sorting the counties in order, then allocating a colour from black to yellow based on position in the list. Unfortunately there's a bug in the program, so that if two or more counties have the same count, they don't actually get the same colour as each other (I need to use their rank eg "equal second", not just their ordering eg "third in the list"). I'll correct this if and when I get a chance. Quote Link to comment

+rutson
Nice work Teasel! Looking at my map: http://stats.guk2.com/pics/make_countymap....531&flat=ffff00 Something is wrong I've gone no caches in Gwynedd, which is coloured but I have done one in Humberside, but that's grey :$ Edit: none found in wiltshire either, which is also coloured. Edit2: Further investigation reveals a red dot in the middle of anglesey on the static map, where I've not cached. This does not appear on the flash or gis maps. Furthermore, the only cache I've found in Humberside is now archived and appears on the static map as a find, but not on the dynamic ones. Edited May 13, 2006 by rutson Quote Link to comment

+Simply Paul
'Wandering' caches, such as Ye Olde Survey Monuments or puzzle caches a LONG way from their given co-ords can also make it look like you've caches in an area you've never actually visited. It's all good though. I'm off to add some code to my gc.com profile page - thanks for all the cool map info stuff! Quote Link to comment
barryhunter
Is there any way notes and DNF could not be counted as finds on the map. just add &found=1 to the end of the image url. eg http://stats.guk2.com/pics/make_countymap....f00&found=1 that way only the found logs will be counted. (should work whatever style of map you choose) - as for what counties are included - not included etc, I not going to go there.... (ie could go on for ever) Quote Link to comment

(ie could go on for ever) Hi Barry, There appears to be an issue where the map misses out some counties for example:- I have found the cache "GCTJMF" in Gloucestershire, but this county isn't coloured in. But if I do a list of the the counties I have cached in Gloucestershire shows up? Is this a bug that can be fixed? Thanks Gary (KiwiGary) Quote Link to comment

But if I do a list of the the counties I have cached in Gloucestershire shows up? What list of counties are you looking at, this one doesnt list Glos as having any caches logged by you? Ahhh! I think it might be that GCTJMF is currently listed as 'Temporally Unavailable' which are not plotted on maps, listed etc... Including archived/unavailable on the map shows Glos. +KiwiGary
I see so if a cache is archived or disabled its not on the map. What about this one, still active "GCTD0F" in Greater Manchester. But Greater Manchester isn't yellow on the map. barryhunter
Greater Manchester does show if you include unavailable caches, like the link in my prev post (&unavail=Y) As for GCTD0F well that falls foul of the vaguallties of the county detection on G:UK, as it's detected as Cheshire. The county listing on G:UK currently did include archived (but not temp unavailable) ... that's now cleared up. (but have the option to include temp unavail/achived like the highscoring page.
