OwenKL
I've just discovered the existance of Peace Poles (see Peace Pole Project and PeacePoles.org for examples), and they say they have 200.000 around the world — about as many as we have geocaches. But I can't find any website that lists them. I'd like to know if there are any in my town (Santa Fe, NM — seems like it ought to be a prime site, but so far I haven't found one). Anyone know where I can find an index or directory of the things? I only found one geocache located at a peace pole, which out of 200,000×200,000 locations seems sort of — odd. ~Owen Lorion in Santa Fe ____@^@~^ . . . @^@~^ . . . @^@~^ . . . @^@~^ . . . @^@~^ _______________________________ MONEY TALKS: the Comic Strip Quote Link to comment
+martinell
That's what those are. There are several of them at the International Peace Gardens on the U.S. - Canada border. Sorry I can't be of any actual help. Quote Link to comment
+Lil Devil
Sounds like a good Waymarking category Quote Link to comment
+cache_test_dummies
Sounds like a good Waymarking category I was just thinking the same thing. I did some searching and couldn't come up with any website which seems to be tracking the location of the Peace Poles. Waymarking is the answer. Quick! Somebody propose the category! There's a Peace Pole cache in Londonderry, NH: Peace on Earth Quote Link to comment

+ParrotRobAndCeCe
Uh, what does the "World Peace Society" actually DO besides collect money and sell 4x4 foot poles for $40? Yes, this is OT, but then again, so is the whole thread. Quote Link to comment

tossedsalad
The PeacePole web site seems to like wood, plastic and metal over concrete. Plastic??? Anyone know why concrete is considered not ecologically friendly? It is just rocks dug from the earth and processed with heat. Quote Link to comment

+lillaurel
Anyone know why concrete is considered not ecologically friendly? It is just rocks dug from the earth and processed with heat. usually it has a lot of chemicals, its not like just crushed melted rock, its got other stuff in it. not that makes it less eco-friendly than most plastics Quote Link to comment

OwenKL
Oh, and since OwenKL (unwittingly) suggested the category, he gets one month of Premium Membership as a thanks. Wow! I finally got around to looking in on that old posting I made, out of curiosity at never getting any notice of any replies to it, and find a very respectable thread! Even that I had a Premmie Membership for a month and didn't know it! Dang! My spam filter must have intercepted the notifications, so I didn't even know all this was going on. Anyway, the category suggestion wasn't all that unwitting, and I'm glad the rest of you are so enthusiastic about it. Now, for the next idea up my sleeve... Quote Link to comment
