  1. So, a trip to MA means leisurely drive, and I'd like to take advantage of my day off and do a few caches along the way. Other than picking some points and finding them that way, whats the easiest way to find caches along a route? I'm not all cool with the blackberry or any of that, so I do sort of have to plan ahead.
  2. Chatfields Chimney was like that. Someone said they found it after several DNFs and it being disabled. We went to check it out and see, but no luck.
  3. Sound kind of like GCKCXR, not quite, but sounds like a neat challenge.
  4. Same thing with my bf and I. I log both, but his attitude is "they know someone found it" and why double up on both paper and online logs. It is a little weird though, 'cause he's the one who got me hooked, and until I got my own GPSr, we always went together. Now I go solo, so it isn't always fair to assume he was or wasn't there too.
  5. Gosh darn it! Right away My travel bug is M.I.A.! So we'll see what happens, but it las last seen in River's Edge. It is a tad disappointing to be honest. It was one of the first ones i put out (it was the second actually, put out the same day as the first). Oh well, hopefully it will turn up somewhere!
  6. Hi! So last night at an event I got a geocoin. I was excited, i hadn't even seen one before. I understand these are cool and people like 'em. I wanted to make sure i didn't mess things up when i moved it along. So are there any different rules or guidelines for coins? Or are they really the same as bugs? Any other tips? Thanks! edit: spelling!
  7. I'm 22 year old engineer (civil, supposedly). I'm usually described as 'unique' or 'just plain weird'. I do a lot of the nature type things, hiking and pressing wild flowers and looking at rocks. I also collect 1950's kitchenware, belly dance and play Sims2 a lot. No ring or kids yet (and hopefully not for a while), but i'm still working on getting my brother to come out sometime, as he's a history buff. I'm still new at this, but really enjoying it, as it seems to tie into a number of my interests between gadgetry and the outdoors and history and whatnot.
  8. usually it has a lot of chemicals, its not like just crushed melted rock, its got other stuff in it. not that makes it less eco-friendly than most plastics
  9. there is a whole geocaching romance story here: From the New England board
  10. Yay! for you, glad you and the family enjoyed it!
  11. this weekend i went out to a nice cache and i'm not sure if i did the right thing. In the cache was a soda (glass bottle) and candy (plastic wrapper still on). Both were un-opened, but i took them out thinking 'food in cache is bad' and even more on the glass bottle in metal box in new england ... seems like an accident waiting to happen. Thing is, i didn't have anything much else to trade. Is it ok to take out inappropriate things that someone else thought were good enough to trade and not leave something?
  12. of course looking at the benchmarks i'm scoping out, seventhings is the one who found them! Pretty small world it seems. How did you find New Britain CT?
  13. Thanks for the tips! Tonight after work I'm going to head over to a local park i know fairly well, where someone else has found a few and see if i can repeat their sucess. That way i'll get the hang of it. Hopefully I'll have some future success stories to share too!
  14. Ok, boxes of goodies are pretty fun, but looking for little plates seems fun too. Any helpful hints for someone starting out? Are there ones i just shouldn't bother with or ones that may be easier to spot? Is there some trick to logging them that I might want to be aware of? Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks!
  15. i've had ok luck using THIS webpage for work stuff.
  16. You can't tell from pictures. Sure you can... If she's standing in the middle of a pricker bush, gps in one hand, cache in the other with some twigs in her hair, and a nice smile, she's probably worth it. ok, so you can't tell personality, but she's at least worth a shot.
  17. mention usefulness other than 'if you're ever stuck in the woods' no really. between girls in science events and scouting, i heard that line so many times, and you'd see all the eyes roll from us kids. and explain how it works, it makes it easier to understand.
  18. Hey if not for my boyfriend I never would of started looking under rocks for trinkets Of course, now and then I think he gets jealous of how much attention I pay to the GPS in the car instead of him...j/k
  19. i like my cartoony one... gives at least a little clue who somebody is but still gives me the ability to deny its me if i need an excuse. that and i am SO not creative!
  20. only 4646 caches in 100 miles of where i live (dead center of CT).
  21. Oooh, that would be handy. i live in CT, but seem to do geocaching with my bf, who lives in NY. It'd be nice to look at either point.
  22. I'm interested in the Lowrance iFinder Go2, it seems like a bargain compared to the Legend, but I don't know too much about them. I'm pretty familiar with the basic capabilities of the Legend (my bf has one we use) but i'm looking for a unit of my own. I'd pretty much just be using it for caching, and the occasional driving around for work. Thanks!
