+BillsBayou
Poisonous snakes, poison ivy, alligators, BAH! I just saw a great spot for a cache. Only problem is, it's in a bad neighborhood. Muggles with guns type of bad. Which brings me to my question: Which symbols should I use at The Selector? Link to comment

+AtoZ
Even with the ddisclaimer and all I think we have to be somewhat responsible for where we place a cache. If you see a wonderful place to place a cache in the median of an interstate then should you place one there. Just because it is wonder place if it is not safe in you mind then I would not place a cache there. Some people are not very capable of looking out for them selves enve in a safe situation and then like I have said in many other threads on cacher safety PEOPLE GET BLINDED BY GETTING THE CACHE AND DO NOT PAY ATTENTION TO THE WORLD AROUND THEM!.. So I would feel responsible for where I palce a cache. cheers Link to comment
+The Commissar!
Great place for a cache...go for the Muggles, Hunting and Danger symbols. That sort-of sums it up. Then sit back and watch the bodies hit the floor... Link to comment

+reveritt
I think you should expect your cache to be disapproved if you say in the listing that it is in a dangerous place. It seems like a bad idea to me. Link to comment
+sbell111
It depends on the 'dangerous place'. If it is a nice place that is reasonably safe during the daytime, I see no problem with the cache being posted, although I would (and have) place a note in the description warning that the area may not be safe at night. I've seen plenty of caches like that. Link to comment

I'd suggest a terrain 5 as this terrain requires special equipment. To search for this cache requires a fully equiped swat team as an escort. MM Link to comment

+clearpath
Come caching here in South Africa - the whole country is dangerous. Yeah, I visited a cache in KC that had a log entry that warned, "there is a small gang of neo-nazi teenagers running around with BB guns". I wondered if I had accidentally stumbled upon a redneck training camp. Link to comment
+fratermus
I know plenty of NON-Cachers with guns! Why is that dangerous? That's what I was thinking. Digression: the presence of law-abiding folks in "bad neighborhoods" is the first step in gentrification. Further digression: I used to live in what was widely considered a bad neighborhood. The locals (including myself) were poor but friendly. There was a high crime rate, but it was from outsider groups swooping in to prey on the locals who were, for various reasons, afraid to get the police involved. My wife and I walked each night in the neighborhood for exercise, legally and discreetly armed of course. "Take back our streets", etc. Link to comment
+Kai Team
BillsBayou, I see you're fairly new to geocaching - welcome! You might to review the Geocachers' Creed, particularly the Not Endanger Myself or Others part for this situation. Personally, I think it depends on whether or not you can "minimize inordinate risks" for potential finders - i.e. by warning people to only look for the cache during safe hours, if there are any safe hours in the neighborhood you're referring to (in some gang-ridden neighborhoods around here, the bullets fly 24/7). +sbell111
... (in some gang-ridden neighborhoods around here, the bullets fly 24/7). According to the most recent satatistics, your whole county had 21 murders in 2000. Either Jamesville has gone to crap in the last few years, or whoever is shooting those bullets '24/7' is a really bad shot. I guess it could be a 24-hour shooting range, though. Link to comment

Geez, I wouldn't assume I know everything about the place you live because I looked up one statistic. Don't know why you feel the need to go off topic and attack me at every opportunity, but you obviously do. Wish the mods would help me out here. Just to be clear, shots fired is not the same as "murders". The point is, in some neighborhoods, shots have been fired regularly at all times of the day and night, ergo, it would be hard to post "safe" times on a cache in one of these neighborhoods. Since the OP called this thread "muggles with guns", it seems like that might be the kind of neighborhood he was referring to. I apologize to the OP for following you off topic, but it's hard not to respond to such a cheap shot. Link to comment
