planetrobert
Here is mine... I have done a little testing and am ready to start making coins for myself. I just need to make my die first. Here is what I did... 1) I took an aluminum slug 2) a 5 ton bottle jack 3) a frame for the jack to sit in 4) a practice die a) I put the jack in the frame I made so that it pushed across the frame to create pressure. heated up the slug with a oxy torch using a slightly sooty flame only till it was too hot to touch. c) put the die piece on the head of the jack and the slug between the die and the frame. d) pulled the handle as hard as I could physically pull it. e) remove 1 freshly pressed aluminum coin. I plan in making a bunch of them and having them all be trackable. Not as nice as you can buy in the quality department, BUT in the coolness factor I think they are an 11 Quote Link to comment

Renegade Knight
Interesting. Any details on the part about making your own die? Quote Link to comment
The Fraher Family
Another option are "pressed pennies". Attached are links that may be of help. Smashing Pennies Squished Pennies Penny Collector Edited January 19, 2005 by The Fraher Family Quote Link to comment
zygote2k
Instead of making homemade coins from worthless metals or for that matter getting a geocoin made, why not make all of them from 1 oz. silver rounds. They are relatively cheap and are actually worth money. If you make your own die and press.... Quote Link to comment
justybug
i've been collecting silver for awhile and have yet to see any 1 oz rounds that are blanked, even on one side. most mints will put their unique tag on it somewhere. you could melt them down and just recast i suppose.... i'm working on using old cull silver coins to recast for miscellaneous little silver things. i like the homemade stuff though, geotoken wise. +dhenninger
My first ones were cast. Made a plaster cast. Melted silver solder (melts easy and does not contain lead). and pour into the molds. Stamped numbers on the back with a punch set. Quote Link to comment
