+beejay&esskay
(I got to thinking about this when I was reading discussions about $3/month for membership.) $4.70 24.6 miles straight 32.7 miles (Mappoint) $1.799/gallon 25 mpg So one-way cost is $2.35, round trip is $4.70. Quote Link to comment
Leoness
Think yourself lucky you don't live in the UK and pay nearly £4 a gallon for fuel. I think that equates to approx. $6 a gallon - not sure what the current exchange rate is. Quote Link to comment
+beejay&esskay
not sure what the current exchange rate is. $1.8081 / British pound. (And aren't your gallons bigger?) So your gas cost to your nearest is?.... Quote Link to comment
+protocoldroid
The closest un-found cache (non-letter box hybrid, there's one 37 miles away as the crow flies) is a driving distance of 68.3 miles, a duration of 1h 40m. At a mileage of 17 Mi/Gal City Driving & 27 Mi/Gal highway driving, and a gas cost of $1.89 / Gal... The total gas cost would be $4.99 (used MS Streets and Trips 2004, and a pocket query to find closest unfound) Quote Link to comment
Vacman
Well, I am not sure if this would count... I drove from Torrance, CA to Temecula, CA (about 90 miles one way) - just to cache... didn't find the first 3 I went for.... finally got 1 before turning around to head home. Quote Link to comment
+fly46
Nearest unfound cache, which I'm going out to later today, is about 3-4 miles away... lol. 22 mpg (average for the Ghetto Mobile).. So, um... 50 cents? Quote Link to comment
Leoness
So your gas cost to your nearest is?.... Gas cost to my nearest cache? Er... it's about 3 miles from home so I could walk it. The cost of the gas would be negligible. Quote Link to comment
+sbell111
I've been out of town for better than a month. Since I've been gone, a cache has been placed less than a mile from my home. When I get home, I'll probably ride my bike over to it. No gas cost to make the trip from my house. I wonder how much Jet A I'd have to buy to get it from here? Quote Link to comment

+Johnnie Stalkers
7.6 miles ATCF 12.4 actual miles / 24.8 roundtrip 22 MPG $1.699 per gallon Cache Gas Cost = $ 1.91 GPSr = $ 165.00 Compass = $ 10.00 Hiking boots = $ 65.00 Backpack = $85.00 Trekking Pole = $ 19.99 Beating Just_Plain_G to the FTF, priceless. +IV_Warrior
$1.69/gallon guesstimating 22 MPG 16.6 miles ATCF 36.4 miles as I have to drive $2.80 each way 59 minute drive time one way (the last 3 are according to MS Streets & Trips) Quote Link to comment
+Jamie Z
I wanted to add that those of you using ATCF, should be using the unit, Chromes. To add my words to the topic, I don't know. I haven't driven to a cache in months. Jamie Quote Link to comment
+Lone Duck
"Gas"? I can walk to the two caches nearest to where I live. Quote Link to comment
+BAF
Boy I feel lucky. I have 6 caches that are with in 3 miles of my house, and 11 with in 5 miles all of these I haven't found. The nearest geocache is 1.5 mile from my house but 1 mile of the 1.5 is on a hiking trail so I'll be walking to it. There are 10 pages of cashes that are under 15 miles from were I live. Wow am I lucky or what? "Gas"? Quote Link to comment
+Chuy!
FTF's are very competitive here in San Diego. The closest unfound cache is E of Tijuana, Mexico (GCHCBB), about 38 miles away. At $2.11/gal., and 25mpg, that's about $3.21 each way. Factoring in an hour wait at the border to return, and one can see why these caches south of the border remain unfound. This one was placed 12/03. The closest unfound cache to us in the states is 60 miles linear, or 85 miles via Mapsource autorouting. Quote Link to comment
+Mark.B
13.1 miles straight 17.5 miles by road then a 3 mile hike $1.799/gal 30 mpg So [(17.5 mi)*(2)*($1.799)]/30 = $2.10 Edited April 20, 2004 by mjbes Quote Link to comment
GrandpaCannon
The first page of caches (25) are all between .7 mi at the closest and 5.2 at the furthest. I am truly lucky. In addition these range from a 1,1 that I probably should get off my rear and get to a 3,3 that has had me scared for over a year because I hear that the rating makes it sound easier than it is. Cost: walking distance-$0.49 for gas (5.2 miles/20 mpg * $1.89 per gal) Quote Link to comment
