capt caper
I don't have mine yet,it's on it's way, but I see on another forum their haveing problems with the 60C holding rechargeable batterys tight in the compartment so they don't power off with movement. They claim the springs are weak and that the rechargeable are a little shorter. That maybe bending out the springs might help. Quote Link to comment
+New England n00b
I'm not familiar with the problem but I would think that placing a small metal disc in between the battery and spring would be a better option than stretching the spring out. Might void warranty or damage the spring - whatever. By placing a metal disc to take up the difference in length of the rechargeable battery vs alkalines I think you'd be better off. Just my humble opinion... Quote Link to comment
capt caper
Yes that can be true. I tried that once on a electonic device andit broke the spring. Putting in a shim as much as it's a pain in the butt would be the way to go. Maybe some rechareables are full length? If this is true about the 60 series that's too bad. I can't believe they can over look something like that. And they probablely order a million of those springs from someone and will have to install them until they run out. Quote Link to comment
+Insp Gadget
No idea what you guys are talking about. I have had my 60C for a month or so and have never had a problem and I have used rechargeables the whole time. Quote Link to comment
+GOT GPS?
I had a vista, where the batteries were extremely tight, and there been others that were loose. So the GPS units will not be exactly identical. Quote Link to comment
Tacomahunter
Same here. I have had tn C for about 3 weeks and have been running rechargeables the entire time. Very snug and I have not had any issues with them loosing contact. Quote Link to comment
capt caper
Here is the link : http://groups.google.com/groups?dq=&hl=en&...satellite-navto the fourm. One of the guys claiming problems is a well known gps guy. He's got the site www.gpsinformation.com Quote Link to comment
Neo_Geo
I use rechargeables and I for one have had the 60C shutdown problem (several times). It seems to happen as I'm simply pushing buttons - no knocking or jarring - just pushing buttons... Quote Link to comment
capt caper
Are you going to send it in? Quote Link to comment
+Greg&Patty
I have a spring problem with my CS and recharables. I emailed Garmin and recieved the suggestion to bend the springs. I attempted it (gently mind you) and one of the springs broke I'm waiting to hear back from Garmin on this. Gulp! Quote Link to comment
capt caper
Can it be replaced by you or are you going to have to send it in? They say to put a shim in instead of prying springs. Good Luck I just got mine and haven't had anytrouble with it in car or home but we'll see on the trail. Quote Link to comment
+Quackin' Up
Several people have indicated no problem and using only rechargables. I think the problem comes when switching between the two. A larger battery type stretched the space out and then the shorter one is too loose. I had my unit shut off a couple of times when bumped from the bottom. I have alternated between regular and rechargable batteries. Quote Link to comment
thcri
Well guess what? I don't use rechargeables and I am having problems. Mine has shut down about six times now. My batteries seem to be tight but when I open the case one of the batteries is not in place but popped out some. Maybe putting something on the cover to hold batteries in place would help. I had the same problems with my Vista. You would think Garmin with all the problems they have had in the past would have corrected this by now. murph Quote Link to comment
+Greg&Patty
Can it be replaced by you or are you going to have to send it in? I'll let you know. It was one of the bottom springs which is a shunt and not connected to the board. It looks like to it can be easily replaced. Once I get it fixed I think I'll squirt a shot of silicone sealant behind the terminals. It provides a firm yet springy support to battery connectors. Quote Link to comment
capt caper
Would Radio Shack sell something that fix's these problems? Springs in electronics going bad or weak, etc. isn't only been Garmins problem. They might have some cure all remedies Quote Link to comment
+auwee
Sorry to hear there are LEMONS out there. I use rechargeables and have no problem with the unit. I do carry reg batteries for backup. Quote Link to comment
capt caper
I've been using mine for 3 days now getting to know it and haven't had any trouble. I use PowerEx rechargables only. JIm Quote Link to comment

Not surprisingly its covered under warranty. All I need to do is part with my week old GPS for 7-10 days (plus shipping = 3weeks) and I'll be fine. BTW: I'm using PowerEX 2200 batteries. capt caper
Let us know if you get a different spring setup. Maybe they've changed. Quote Link to comment
TPadden
Maybe putting something on the cover to hold batteries in place would help. murph Mine also shuts down when jarred. I put a folded piece of paper in the cover to stabilize the batteries and haven't had a shutdown since. I think it's more a case of the batteries moving than a loose spring - the cover should hold the batteries not the springs. Quote Link to comment

4x5shooter
FWIW, I still haven't seen the loose battery problem, and mine sometimes shakes violently on my dash. Quote Link to comment

Neo_Geo
They sent me a new unit. Did you unlock City Navigator to your old unit? If so, did they provide you with a new code? Quote Link to comment
