  1. Putting the cart before the course - you can uninstall V6 BUT if/when you re-install V7 since it is an UPDATE version you will have to re-install V6. Not too clear - removing V6 will cause no problems. If you ever need to reinstall a V7 update - V6 will have to be installed - SO don't lose your V6. Tom Gainesville, Mo.
  2. City Select vs City Select NT was the main reason I went with the Quest vs Quest 2. The Quest 2 uses City Select NT which uses more data compression and different routing algorithms. So far there isn't a Mapsource computer program to duplicate GPS routing. The older Quest uses regular City Select mapping/ routing so the included computer mapsource program can be used for route planning and routes will transfer.
  3. I also made a removable hard wire hookup but since I already had battery tender pigtails for each of my bikes I just wired a Garmin cable to a tender connector (standard 2 prong automotive trailer connector). It is also the same connector that my Gerbing's heated liner connects to so it makes a simple hookup for all 5 of my bikes and ATV. Total cost was less than $10.
  4. Don't need no stinkin mount - the 60C fits perfectly in the cup holder in my cars and truck!
  5. No - the unlock code checks the internal serial of the GPS; again without an illegal crack it will only work on 2 GPS's.
  6. Agree - if Delorme was correct - Why do they support Garmin's serial non-NMEA serial protocal (Garmin/Garmin)? My bet is we can pay for in in SA 2005 and Garmin won't see a penny.
  7. There are many simple free programs for just waypoint and route entry and transfer one is Waypoint+. The webpage gives very detailed and easy to understand directions to get you started and on your way to enjoying the III+ for free if you don't have any Garmin disk. http://www.tapr.org/~kh2z/Waypoint/ It even gives info on connecting to your computer: http://www.tapr.org/~kh2z/Waypoint/Connections.htm The early Mapsource programs (Roads and Recreation) cost $ and are another easy way to work with a III+
  8. http://www.tvnav.com/ sells refurbished (remanufactured) Garmin's and I've never heard anything bad about them. Garmin individually tests each unit to ensure they meet all the specs and buyers swear by them. - so much so that they are usually sold out so you got to catch them when they appear.
  9. No experience with the 76 but ergonomically it seems that the 60 would be better for a handheld. I often use mine one-handed and the 76 has it's buttons above the screen. It appears that one handed use would be much more natural with the buttons below the screeen like the 60C. Different strokes - the double memory would be nice though.
  10. I've been comparing R&R with MetroGuide and find that the mapping in R&R is much more accurate and more detailed than MetroGuide. I don't mind giving up POI's and address finds since I use SA 2004 for that. Tom Gainesville, Mo.
  11. Mine also shuts down when jarred. I put a folded piece of paper in the cover to stabilize the batteries and haven't had a shutdown since. I think it's more a case of the batteries moving than a loose spring - the cover should hold the batteries not the springs.
