+Renegade Knight Posted November 30, 2003 Posted November 30, 2003 If this was a real topic it would cover something that happens on GC.com. Something like topics being closed. What happened? I'm gone for a week and whamo the topic fairy has bopped all the interesting topics shut. Valid replies are those in regards to closed topics, on topic, and off topic. Actually anything with a topic works including no topic.
ju66l3r Posted November 30, 2003 Posted November 30, 2003 My doctor gave me this ointment...it is topical. Does that make this post topical or off-topic. And if the ointment were from Jamaica, would that make it a tropic topical topic? If I took a picture, would that be a tropic topical topic pic? If Kurt Thomas was in the picture, would that be a tropic topical topic pic of a Knick? I think I'm going to go see Cat in the Hat....
+RJFerret Posted November 30, 2003 Posted November 30, 2003 Yeah, I think the simplest solution now would be to setup the forum to automatically close topics after a half-dozen to dozen posts. This would take a tremendous load off the approvers and inhibit dialog as desired! Although I'd previously been supportive of the new policy, I saw one topic w/innuendo closed after the conversation moved to more mundane territory! Absurd, Randy

You may want to lay of this tropical topic and see a psychiatrist! Perhaps even a Jamican psychiatrsit?
+Team GPSaxophone Posted November 30, 2003 Posted November 30, 2003 ...if the ointment were from Jamaica, would that make it a tropic topical topic? You should post this in the appropriate regional forum
+canadazuuk Posted November 30, 2003 Posted November 30, 2003 Some folks actually feel that they are oppressed!!??? Try living in a communist country in Asia somewhere. Time to grab a grip.

umc Posted December 1, 2003 Posted December 1, 2003 I was going to do RK a favor and close this topic when I saw that it wasn't. Glad I read it first.
solohiker Posted December 1, 2003 Posted December 1, 2003 I would reply to the topic if I knew what it was.
+sept1c_tank Posted December 1, 2003 Posted December 1, 2003 I have no problem with closed topics. Some of my favorite topics are closed topics. I read topics that are closed. I post in topics destined to be closed. Some open topics are trashier than some closed ones. Sometimes, I even dream of starting a topic that will be closed. All topics are created equal. Some of them get closed. Sh1t happens!

Might be why my posts don't always show up. But I do agree, they are usually the most interesting. LOL
+Alan2 Posted December 1, 2003 Posted December 1, 2003 Thanks. It really is a pleasure posting in a close topic. Can you set up an invisible topic so we can post in a topic that has totally disappeared?
bug and snake Posted December 1, 2003 Posted December 1, 2003 I had this topic one time that I was not too clear on the subject of so I never posted it at all. Wanna post a reply to that one?
+Alan2 Posted December 1, 2003 Posted December 1, 2003 I was referring to topics that have been removed by TPTB>
bug and snake Posted December 1, 2003 Posted December 1, 2003 I know... Sorry, I was being a bit more than slightly obscure... But I am not going to explain coz it would fire up something that really is best left to rest.
+Alan2 Posted December 1, 2003 Posted December 1, 2003 Nothing to worry about. Since it's invisible, no one will be able to read your posts. You can flame without insulting anyone. No one can take offense. And if they do figuring you probably flamed them, you don't have to feel guilty because you wouldn't know they felt insulted. Might even help with the server bandwith. This plan has possibilities!
+ChrisCindy Posted December 1, 2003 Posted December 1, 2003 Is there a point to this topic or are we just seeing how long it goes before it gets canned?
bug and snake Posted December 1, 2003 Posted December 1, 2003 Is there a point to this topic or are we just seeing how long it goes before it gets canned? What topic? This non-existent topic is actually invisible and I am not posting in it.
+Bloencustoms Posted December 1, 2003 Posted December 1, 2003 Through some glitch in the system, I was able to post here. I am pleased to see that this is non-toxic.
+Corp Of Discovery Posted December 1, 2003 Posted December 1, 2003 There is no thread, only the idea of a thread. This is no post, only the idea of a post. THIS IS NOT AN EXIT
+Alan2 Posted December 1, 2003 Posted December 1, 2003 Through some glitch in the system, I was able to post here. I am pleased to see that this is non-toxic. You haven't really posted. It's a figure of your imagination. And ours. The fact is no one can see it; we only perceive it's there.
+ChrisCindy Posted December 1, 2003 Posted December 1, 2003 Then I guess if I flame someone it won't count then huh?
bug and snake Posted December 1, 2003 Posted December 1, 2003 True, but if they can't see it either, have they really been flamed?
+ChrisCindy Posted December 1, 2003 Posted December 1, 2003 Yes but I guess it would be in a non topic, outer world, flame inducing, parallel, thread-verse. You know...Toledo, OH.
+Doc-Dean Posted December 1, 2003 Posted December 1, 2003 I really have nothing to add but I wanted to get in before the topic was closed. Oops... too late
+Cave Troll and Eeyore Posted December 1, 2003 Posted December 1, 2003 I started an invisible topic several weeks ago. Its not there if you don,t look for it!

Boogieman67 Posted December 1, 2003 Posted December 1, 2003 Ok, so this TOPIC is CLOSED! But what was the closed topic about in the first place? Did I miss something, or do I need some TOPICal TOPIC Ointment too? (Ok, I know, I know, the newbie thinks he is a comedian! Do worry I wont quit my day job!) Have a great day all! - Lee
bug and snake Posted December 1, 2003 Posted December 1, 2003 Welcome to geocaching new guy. If a cache is hidden in the forrest and no one ever finds it.............? Or not?

bug and snake Posted December 2, 2003 Posted December 2, 2003 Sometimes my brother gets a little rambunctious and causes a thread to be closed by the ever vigilant moderators. This will keep him busy then - this one was closed before it was ever opened...
+ChrisCindy Posted December 2, 2003 Posted December 2, 2003 Which is about the best way to do it as it saves the mods the key strokes.
bug and snake Posted December 2, 2003 Posted December 2, 2003 WOW, the light just came on - perhaps ALL threads should open up closed! Then we wouldn't need mods at all..... (no, that's TOO obvious a comment - don't say it!)

I find it hard to believe that this ridiculous thread has survived all this time when other threads that were much more on topic were being slapped shut left and right. <sigh> ***** Your right J5. so why don't we get it on topic to save it from being closed. We could talk about anything to do with Geocaching to save it. Using the subject line of the thread we could talk about keeping topics on topic to prevent them from being closed. Or how to prevent a thread from going off topic. I think the fourms need help in these areas and you and a lot of other experinced posters could really help us a lot to accomplish this goal. Let's work together to make this happen. El Diablo
