October.Muffins
I recently purchased the Garmin etrex 20 and I would like something better than the base map that comes with it. I know there's a way to get free maps but I don't know how. SPECIFIC instructions on how to do this would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks in advance!! Quote Link to comment
+StefandD
Here's a list of OSM providers worldwide: wiki.openstreetmap.org. Each provider had it's own set of instructions. You can view them on their websites. Quote Link to comment
MtnHermit
how to download free maps to etrex 20? You don't download directly to your etrex. These are the basic steps: Download the map file Install maps into either BaseCamp or MapSource Use either BC or MS to install maps to your etrex Quote Link to comment

If you download an img file there is no need to use either BC or MS, you can load it directly onto the GPS. Quote Link to comment

Yes, in fact that's all I ever use. The two sites sussamb linked to above provide .img files I think, as does http://garmin.openstreetmap.nl/ Quote Link to comment

Only topo maps which can be sourced free or fee, and I've only seen them as exe files. For streets, a Nuvi comes loaded with maps and I wouldn't use a handheld for streets, no speech/small screen. Ok could you give me a specific website that I can do that with for south eastern united states? Edited February 4, 2015 by October.Muffins Quote Link to comment
+Mineral2
Are you looking for a topo map or a non-topo map? Quote Link to comment
