  1. Ok so I've seen a topic on the worst swag that you have found in a geocache but what about the best swag that you have found in a geocache?
  2. Ok I'm going to Pigeon Forge to do some caching and i have never taken or placed anything inside of a cache so I was wondering if my idea of something that I think would be hilarious is still appropriate. My idea is to put a fake snake in the cache. Should I or should I not do this?
  3. You don't download directly to your etrex. These are the basic steps: Download the map file Install maps into either BaseCamp or MapSource Use either BC or MS to install maps to your etrex That depends. If you download an img file there is no need to use either BC or MS, you can load it directly onto the GPS. Indeed, but I've never seen a downloadable img file, have you? Yes, often. I would not have posted the info had I not done so myself. Agreed, many sites provide .img files that can be simply 'dropped' into your GPS. Ok could you give me a specific website that I can do that with for south eastern united states?
  4. i was with my stepdad and we were trying to find a cache. this particular cache was located behind a motel on private property. me and my stepdad both felt uncomfortable going behind it so we decided to leave it alone. should i have done anything different?
  5. I recently purchased the Garmin etrex 20 and I would like something better than the base map that comes with it. I know there's a way to get free maps but I don't know how. SPECIFIC instructions on how to do this would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks in advance!!
  6. How is the base map on the 20? I've been looking to buy it when I save up enough money and was just curious.
  7. I have heard that base map on the etrex 20 is no good and that I have to buy about $100 more worth of maps. Anyone that actually uses or has used this device please clarify because if this is true I do mot want to waste my money on it.
  8. A business owner who loses money due to an object placed on their property without any type of permission, has every right to demand that someone be held responsible for it. At least that's how I would react. Having an area open to public visits does not give anyone the legal right to leave objects behind as part of any online game. Someone should think before wrapping a cylinder up in duct tape and placing it in a public place. Well the cache owner in that case should have gotten permission from this business owner. If they did not then the cache owner would have been violating one of the guidelines of geocaching. So I agree with you. This business owner would have every right to demand that someone be held responsible for it in this hypothetical scenario
  9. Ok I have an idea of where to place my first cache. I was planning to put it near a boat ramp because there is an amazing view of the lake there in my area which belongs to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and I figure as long as I ask one of the people at their office and get approval it should be fine. But that's not the issue. On the way to the boat ramp there is a sign that says "toll booth ahead" which there is none. Would that cause a problem?
  10. Ok now I dont know if I should get the Magellan Explorist GC or the etrex 20.
  11. Well the way I'm saving up is my allowance which is $10 a week. I started looking at the etrex 20 because I have seen that many people dislike the 10 and its just inside my budget. I have heard people say that they didn't like it because they couldn't load their cache info onto it but for me it isn't a big deal to me. I'll start looking at your suggestion to see if I like it better though.
  12. Cost is definitely an issue for me and I would prefer it to be around $100 but no more than $150. Which GPS is the best quality for around that price? I was considering either the Garmin etrex 10 or the Garmin 72H. Any first hand experiences with these particular devices or any suggestions are welcome.
