+FolsomNatural Posted December 24, 2012 Posted December 24, 2012 A new GPS game is in beta testing by Google. The game uses landmarks to identify and conquer using your smart-phone GPS function. Not sure I understand it all . . . see the story at: http://www.newscientist.com/article/mg21628936.200-why-googles-ingress-game-is-a-data-gold-mine.html Google GPS Game Quote
+geocat_ Posted December 24, 2012 Posted December 24, 2012 I never was much for multi player games like this, but I think there is a market for it. Will be interesting to see if it takes off and how it develops. Quote
AZcachemeister Posted December 24, 2012 Posted December 24, 2012 I tried a game like that once, called Parallel Kingdom. It wasn't much fun because the other players were so aggressive. I couldn't keep up. Quote
+Sol seaker Posted December 25, 2012 Posted December 25, 2012 I already have a GPS game I'm into. It's called geocaching. I like it. Quote

This Augmented Reality (AR) game (Ingress) touches on some of aspects of Geocaching. Get people out to see sights Game involving the use of a GPS Mapping Available world wide Many of the game landmarks overlap geocaches. Do any of you see the sport of geocaching moving to this direction, where caches are virtual in an AR? That is would really allow the sport to really leave no trace. I would also argue that virtual caches in this world would some aspects of the thrill of the hunt. Quote

+JKMonkey Posted February 10, 2013 Posted February 10, 2013 kinda reminds me of the time that Google tried to make a social network, remember how well that turned out? Quote
History-Cacher Posted February 10, 2013 Posted February 10, 2013 (edited) kinda reminds me of the time that Google tried to make a social network, remember how well that turned out? Kind like this thread. Not a lot of use but it's still there. You mean Google Plus of course. I throw my stuff out there with it just as I do my Twitter. Only takes a couple minutes. But let's talk about successful Google products. Google Earth seems to work well. Anybody here using it with geocaching? -RKO Edited February 10, 2013 by History-Cacher Quote
+ras_oscar Posted February 10, 2013 Posted February 10, 2013 Meh, just be sure my geocaches don't get augmented with Google metadata. Quote
+wmpastor Posted February 17, 2013 Posted February 17, 2013 Meh, just be sure my geocaches don't get augmented with Google metadata. If there's data to be mined, that company will mine it. Quote
