drsolly Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 (edited) I've written a book. Well, a Kindle, actually. Well, not written ... It's the geocaching logs of my first 24,000 caches found; I've removed all the ones that only got a short "A quick find, TFTC" and converted it to Kindle format. You can download it and read it on your Kindle, or other book reader. It's free. http://drsolly.blogspot.com Edited January 9, 2012 by drsolly Quote

drsolly Posted January 9, 2012 Author Posted January 9, 2012 Goody, goody... lots of dogging doggy stories. Hardly any dog stories, but lots of slugs. Also falling off bikes, getting stuck in holes and getting wet all over. Quote
The Bongtwashes Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 Hope it's full of helpful hints for caches I've DNFed Quote
jason johnson Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 Being a techno muppet, can I just download it and read it on the `puter or do I have to have a kindle/ electronic book thingy? Quote
MartyBartfast Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 Being a techno muppet, can I just download it and read it on the `puter or do I have to have a kindle/ electronic book thingy? You can read it on your PC, but you'll need a program to do it, one of these should suffice: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/feature.html/ref=kcp_pc_mkt_lnd?docId=1000423913 http://www.amazon.com/gp/feature.html/ref=kcp_short_webvanity?docId=1000579091 Quote

FantasyRaider Posted January 10, 2012 Posted January 10, 2012 Oh I'm going to love this! If the drsolly logs are anything like the drsolly posts i'm going to have to make sure I'm not drinking my coffee when reading them! Quote
Pharisee Posted January 10, 2012 Posted January 10, 2012 I'll admit to being a real techno-muppet but how do I get it onto my Kindle, please? I've only ever bought 'books' from Amazon and they just sort of 'appear' on my Kindle Quote

tedwin Posted January 10, 2012 Posted January 10, 2012 (edited) If you use an ereader like the Sony, you may need to convert the format. Calibre(free) does this well but rather slowly, 4.5 min for drsolly's epic, I wouldn't like to try it with War and Peace! Edited January 10, 2012 by tedwin Quote

pixeltash Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 (edited) OK I am obviously more of a techno muppet than Pharisee, as I can't work out how to get it onto the kindle reader on my android phone - anyone? eta - ok not such a muppet as I thought, sorted it :-) Edited January 12, 2012 by pixeltash Quote
drdick&vick Posted January 13, 2012 Posted January 13, 2012 Copy the book in to the Kindle folder on the phone and then simply Sync from within the app. Quote
WizzardPrang Posted January 13, 2012 Posted January 13, 2012 Downloaded, looking forward to catching up with your adventures! Quote
LinseyG Posted January 18, 2012 Posted January 18, 2012 Just a plug for the book - I'm really enjoying it - I have this mental image of dr & lady solly walking around the countryside with a rucksack the size of a van with the amount of rope and detection equipment they take with them. I'm about 7% of the way through. Oh - and the blog is good too :-) Quote
redsox_mark Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 I downloaded it to my iPhone - the first time I've done that with a Kindle format book. A very entertaining start to the book. It is showing as 38,668 "pages" - but on the iPhone they are very little pages... Quote
NickandAliandEliza Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 Bit disappointed that it doesn't have a cover and title page...... Quote
drsolly Posted January 25, 2012 Author Posted January 25, 2012 Bit disappointed that it doesn't have a cover and title page...... I thought a plain brown wrapper would be suitably discreet. Quote
