Cache nr. in log

Hi everybody,

 

I've started noting the number of the "find" At the bottom of my log whenever I find a cache. I was just curious if this is considered bad form or "noobish". Mayby it's noobish just to ask, : )

Lots of people do that. It's really up to you. But don't forget...it is about the fun not the win.

I don't really see the point TBH, but some people add it.

 

As a CO I'd rather see a descriptivism log rather than "TFTC #234"...

There's even a Greasemonkey script that makes it easy.

I add it. Why? Well when I go back and look at my logs it sort of helps me put things in perspective. I don't see it as hurting anything.

We mention a number if it is a milestone - 100, 200, 1000 - usually because we select a specific cache or cache owner to achieve that. Otherwise, we don't bother.

I usually only log the significant numbers too like 100, 200, or 250, things like that. I also try and make my logs longer than TFTC. I rally like to make them readable to the CO. That's if they have made it worth while.

I wish I had done that for every find from the beginning. As someone else said, it helps you get perspective when you go back years later and read your logs (of course, with GSAK you can still figure out what # it was.)

But here's another reason: I love finding caches and seeing a Stayfloopy log that says "#149" or something. Talk about perspective! That's like seeing a sign on a house that says George Washington slept here!

Well not that I have many milestones yet, but that's about the only time I add the find number to my log. Recently got my 50th find so I added that to the log.

I seen a lot of logs like that. Funny thing is... they almost never correspond with those (supposedly the same) numbers that geocaching.com puts on the same log. You figure it out.....

The number geocaching.com puts on the page is the latest total count. So every time you log a new cache, that number increases.

We started putting which find it was after we'd found a few, and I think I went back and edited our earlier finds to add it. If nothing else, I guess it gives context to anyone who goes back and reads our old logs. Enjoy, geocaching historians!
