Hesamati Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 Douglas Gleen? Indeed! There are a few smiles to be had on http://www.springbokradio.com/ADS.html if you're old enough to get nostalgic... You're it Tom (referring to the game ONLY of course...)
cownchicken Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 (edited) Thanks for that trip down memory lane. Particularly enjoyed: "DECIMAL DAN" and had to laugh at the Mountain Dew ad! Edited March 29, 2011 by cownchicken
tomtwogates Posted March 30, 2011 Posted March 30, 2011 You're it Tom (referring to the game ONLY of course...) Okay I'll take that!! What is a Mobius Strip, and what happens if you cut it in its length?
Carbon Hunter Posted March 30, 2011 Posted March 30, 2011 It is a continous loop with a twist - 2 things can happen if you cut it (dending where the cut is) - you either end with 2 interlocking loops - or a really big loop (depending if you cut in the middle - or 1/3 across.

Well done CH - MC Esher a Dutch graphic artist did a great drawing of one over to you
Carbon Hunter Posted March 30, 2011 Posted March 30, 2011 Escher - my favourite! OK - what is significant about the Bir Tawil Triangle (apart from the fact that it is more trapezoidal - ) which lies on the Sudan/Egypt border?
the pooks Posted March 30, 2011 Posted March 30, 2011 (edited) It is a continous loop with a twist - 2 things can happen if you cut it (dending where the cut is) - you either end with 2 interlocking loops - or a really big loop (depending if you cut in the middle - or 1/3 across. The book "Godel, Escher, Bach - an eternal golden braid" by Douglas Hofstadter is a fascinating book that had me thinking back in varsity days, when one is predisposed to thinking. It explores recursiveness (turning on itself) in mathematics (Godel), art (Escher) and music (Bach). It is quite fascinating how themes can express themselves in such diverse disciplines. The parallels between art and music is well known. Escher's mobius strip is discussed in that book. My signature line also comes from there - which is a literary example of Esher's endless drawings and Bach's music which returns on itself in a similar way. Edited March 30, 2011 by the pooks
Carbon Hunter Posted March 31, 2011 Posted March 31, 2011 Check this video out - a working example of Eschers waterfall
Carbon Hunter Posted March 31, 2011 Posted March 31, 2011 Optical illusion - do a google on how they made it - apparently done in 3 parts - similar to how the hobbits looked so small and the humans and elfs so big in Lord of the Rings - very clever camera angle tricks
cincol Posted March 31, 2011 Posted March 31, 2011 Escher - my favourite! OK - what is significant about the Bir Tawil Triangle (apart from the fact that it is more trapezoidal - ) which lies on the Sudan/Egypt border? Isn't it the only piece of land in the world that nobody wants?
Carbon Hunter Posted March 31, 2011 Posted March 31, 2011 Yep - Sudan and Egypt have been fighting for a while - and NEITHER wants it - trying to palm it off to the other Now that makes a change. BTW: Not the ONLY - but probably the biggest and most well known. You're it
cincol Posted March 31, 2011 Posted March 31, 2011 In recent news broadcasts concerning what was happening in Bahrain referral was always made by the reporters to "Pearl Square" where the protestors were camped out in Bahrain. This was factually incorrect. Why?
cincol Posted April 5, 2011 Posted April 5, 2011 Pearl Square is a circle My apologies - I have not been able to get to the Forum for a while. wazat - you are correct. It is in fact Pearl Roundabout and not Pearl Square as it was referred to.
