+Konnarock Kid & Marge
Oops! Something was lost in the translation or better yet, something was lost in the posting. Sorry folks. My mistake. The original question was to settle a debate a friend and I. Here it is without editorial comment: Should an Earthcache be listed as a member's only cache? Thanks. Keystone
I am moving this thread from the Geocaching Topics forum to the Earthcaching forum. Quote Link to comment

Keystone
It's not necessarily just the Cache Owner's decision. Some land managers will not permit Members Only Caches on their properties. (Example: Pennsylvania State Parks and State Forests.) Quote Link to comment
+TerryDad2
I've seen CO's list as member only for the first few weeks giving members an added edge for a FTF. AFter that they open them up to everyone. As a permanent member only, I would say it goes against the philosophy of the earthcache program. Quote Link to comment

I've never done it - but a fair approach Quote Link to comment
+Accordiongal
Have to admit thought about makeing an earthcahe memebers only. In the long run felt that members only would be inappropriate because feel that earthcaches are a unique geology learning tool. Why limit the options? Members only should not occur. +Rev Mike
Interesting... I don't think I have ever come across one that was members only. I do not think it should be done. Few enough people are interested in earthcaches as it is. - Rev Mike Quote Link to comment
+danieloliveira
....... Here it is without editorial comment: Should an Earthcache be listed as a member's only cache? Thanks. Definitely not. If its educational everyone should have the opportunity. Quote Link to comment
+fox-and-the-hound
Absolutely not. You want to place a PMO cache, then hide one nearby instead. I've seen this done and appreciated it for the added value of signing a logbook. It just seems to run contrary to everything that's great about an earthcache. Quote Link to comment
+whistler & co.
Are there actually any PMO earthcaches? It seems like a very greedy thing to do! Education (the primary point of earthcaches, in my opinion) should be free to all! Quote Link to comment
+Renegade Knight
...Should an Earthcache be listed as a member's only cache?... Given it's just another cache type listed on this site, It's the owners call. Keystone has pointed out that land owners may or may not allow an earch cache to be MO. That would trump the owner. I find it hard to see a reason to make one MO. Quote Link to comment
+Cav Scout
I have never had a land owner tell me that they want earthcaches on their property not to be listed as MO. RK, have you ever placed a EC that falls into this catagory, "ie" the landowner requesting that its not listed as a MO earth cache? ...Should an Earthcache be listed as a member's only cache?... +GEO WALKER
Absolutely not… What purpose is served by narrowing the educational audience? Quote Link to comment
+danieloliveira
I feel very strongly about this. NO Quote Link to comment
