+sonatellas Posted January 28, 2008 Posted January 28, 2008 As some of you may know I work in a school and I have been known to take the children out on small geocaching trails that I set up for them. They love this. So next week we are sending out 5 new travel bugs for them. Each year group have their own travel bug and the staff have one too. We have a display on the wall and maps of the world all ready for our race to begin. It is so exciting. Everyone is talking about it and they are really looking forward to it. All the bugs are hanging up on the wall side by side ready to go. It is a nice way to link to their Geography. I will keep you all informed as to how our race is going. The bugs are a squirrel called Nuts, a rabbit called Nibbles, a cow called Salisbury, an owl called Ollie and a hedgehog called Herbert. Keep an eye out for them. Quote

My daughter is teacher training for primary, specialising in Geography. I'm trying to encourage her to so something similar. Unfortunately she is still young, and is fond of the phrases "geowhat?, geonerd!" etc... She'll come round... Quote

+Delta68 Posted January 29, 2008 Posted January 29, 2008 ...next week we are sending out 5 new travel bugs for them... Will they be under your username... or a different one? Quote
+sonatellas Posted January 29, 2008 Author Posted January 29, 2008 I have set them up their own account. They are not premium members they don't really need to be. Although I have to say they are begging me to take them caching. I won't take them to real caches as it doesn't seem right to let so many know where they are. I set up little tempory ones. In the Summer we will go out. Oh what fun. Quote
+Delta68 Posted January 29, 2008 Posted January 29, 2008 I have set them up their own account. This one I presume... Salisbury Road School Quote
+sonatellas Posted January 31, 2008 Author Posted January 31, 2008 Yes that is our lovely school. I know it looks a bit grey from the outside but it is wonderful inside. Quote
+Fuchsiamagic Posted January 31, 2008 Posted January 31, 2008 To record their mileage accurately, it's best to drop them off and retrieve them again from a local cache which will then act as the starting point. You can do this virtually. If it isn't done, one dropped in Yorkshire for instance won't record any more mileage initially than one dropped off locally in Plymouth. Quote
+sonatellas Posted January 31, 2008 Author Posted January 31, 2008 (edited) Gosh I didn't know that. What do I do drop it in take it out and drop it in again? Oh I know what about if I drop them into one of my own caches and then take them out again. That would work!! Edited January 31, 2008 by sonatellas Quote

Oh I know what about if I drop them into one of my own caches and then take them out again. That would work!! Yes, that's what you do. You obviously don't need to physically go to the cache. It just needs a starting point. You can always delete the cache logs afterwards if you want to. You won't find any mileage has been added to them until they are moved on to the next cache. I had to do that with one of my TB's which a friend took to New Zealand. If I hadn't, the mileage would have started from the first cache and it would have lost 12,000 miles! Quote
+sonatellas Posted February 1, 2008 Author Posted February 1, 2008 Thank you so much for warning me about this. It could of gone so wrong. Quote
The Red Kite Posted February 3, 2008 Posted February 3, 2008 Great to see you got this off the ground!! Good luck to all with the race Quote
