$17 US is just way too much

No wonder they have "some" left over ;) !

At that price I would be curious to know how many is "some" ?

I am guessing that in a few months they will still have "some" for sale B) ?

On Ebay the sell for more. So if you think it is too much; no problem.

This isn't eBay and if you have to use that arguement to justify your high prices, then you know you they are overpriced.

I know this isn't Ebay. That's why I offer a lower price.

Besides that, you are free to buy or skip this one ;)

I just wanted to comment that when I order a coin in a german shop I pay something from 7 - 9 EUR for a Coin (sometimes less, but most coins start at 6,90 EUR) and shipping costs are something around 3 EUR. That makes 10 - 12 EUR for for a single coin with shipping.

The prize for this coin contain international shipping costs, so the price is not a very high price. It is not a bargain, on the other hand, but it is definitively not too high. Unfortunately the exchange rate from EUR to $ is not that good for you, so it makes a quite high $ sum for you. But here in Europe nearly all coins are that expensive

(I don't know fazanten, and I don't have anything to do with his coins or selling them, and I don't get a free coin for writing this..., I just realized that the prizes are not that bad as they might seem for you)

I'll chime in here on exchange rates

Several years ago, I went on vacation in Italy for two weeks

The exchange rate then was about 0.7 dollars for one euro (or $1 = 1.4 euro)

I was amazed at how inexpensive things were

The situation is now reversed - to buy a euro costs you about $1.40

Back then, an item priced at 12.37 euro would have cost you around $8.65

(which would have included shipping, in this particular case)

You can say that the dollar got weaker, or that the euro got stronger - your choice

Postage to move an item across the pond is also a factor, but that costs more no matter which way you are sending it

On the other hand, folks in Europe should find geocoins sold in the USA to be very reasonablely priced right along about now

Yes, that's true! And that's the reason why I can justify the expenses of up to 9$ for shipping (usually it is something around 6-7 $) per order...

As for shipping costs, a few examples (these are just for letters of different weight):

- sending a postcard to the US costs 1 EUR (1,38 $)

- sending a plain letter to the US costs 1,70 EUR (2,35 $) (letters up to 20 g)

- sending one coin to the US costs me 2 EUR (2,76 $) (letters up to 50 g)

- sending two coins to the US costs me 4 EUR (5,53 $) (letters up to 100 g)

- the secret misson package I sent out: 8 EUR (11,06 $) (letters up to 500 g)

- Letters up to 1000 g: 12 EUR

- Letters up to 2000 g: 24 EUR

(A Letter has to have special dimensions and sizes, or you have to ship it as a parcel, which is even more expensive...)

These prices are without the costs for mailers and handling which a shop usually will have to add, and without any insurances etc.

Postal rates from the USA to just about anywhere in the world can be determined here - postcalc.usps.gov

Rates from other places in the world to the USA vary greatly

Some nations see the mail as an important component of commerce, and strive to keep the cost down in order to promote trade

Others see it as a source of income (a type of taxation), so the rates there are higher

Yet others try to strike a balance, or have other agendas

You can get as much (or as little) detail as you like via your favorite internet search engine
