+Jonovich
Hi folks, Just browsing on the Garmin website and spotted there was a recent firmware upgrade release from Garmin for the 60CSX... I know alot of folks on here use this unit so wondered if anyone had tried it yet? List of changes below. Cheers Jon. Changes made from version 3.30 to 3.50: Change number of lines of text in the address field on map feature review page from 4 to 6. Improve robustness when recovering from a partial map load. Limit number of custom POI bitmaps to 64 to ensure enough memory resources. Added better compatibility with Mac computers in USB mass storage mode. Improved pedestrian route calculation for shortest distance method. Added ability to recalculate a direct goto route. Fix issue where MPC maps could potentially cause a shutdown. Address issue where nearest points search would skip some points. Changed datum used in the the SWEREF 99TM grid to GRS80. Changed datum used in the the Estonian grid to GRS80. Fix potential shutdown when using TOPO West 1999. Fix potential shutdown on track setup for data card when track log files have long file names. Corrected French translation for 'Log track points'. Improved promptness of the turn review popup. Improve track log recording for sensor products to continue recording sensor data even when GPS doesn't have a fix. Fix potential shutdown when propagating in a cul-de-sac across a map boundary. Added more time zones. Fix potential shutdown when clearing recent find list when custom POI with custom bitmaps are in the list. Add A905/D900 unlock code communication protocol. Make route recalculation on MPC maps behave like City Navigator maps. Remove lithium ion as a battery choice. Quote Link to comment
+KlustaDuk
Sounds good to me. I'll have to try it as mine suffers from the shutdown problems and the map re-load issues every now and again. Quote Link to comment

Yup, I upgraded mine and a friends last night - mine had suffered the occasionaly unexplained shutdown, so maybe this will help. Haven't had chance to test in anger, but upgrades were easy and problem free. J Quote Link to comment
+jerryo
I upgraded last night. Nothing more irritating than having the option of using lithium ion batteries and no batteries of that ilk in the cupboard. Good riddance to them, I say. Can’t say I’ve noticed a real difference yet but this is to say thanks for the heads up. Quote Link to comment
Icarus.
I've just updated my 60CSX to v3.5 - seems to be ok, well it's better than it was as it didn't work at all. I've also updated the GPS software to V2.90 as the unit suddenly refused to locate or acquire satellites - fortunately we had two GPSrs with us. Garmin tech support suggested I upgrade the GPS s/w, but didn't volunteer that it was a known bug. The list of bug fixes for GPS s/w V2.7 includes "Fixed occasional problem where the GPS would report a software version of 0.0 and not track satellites. " Exactly the problem I had - I don't know what version I had before. Has anyone else had this problem?? Hopefully all will be well now....... Quote Link to comment
+bones1
oh dear reading all this about a 60csx makes me even more sceptical,i bought one 3months ago and have not yet found a cache with it yet,i have tried on a few occaisions to understand it and i had a lesson from Rodz but i find it so complicated as to cause me stress,so i still use my explorist colour that works easy and fine.ive heard that a new gps is coming out soon that is very easy to use so i might see what thats like and sell this one.all the best from a non techie,jeff=bones1. +Sensei TSKC
I have had a 60Cx since last August and contrary to things stated on here, I have found it to be excellent! It may have been due to the fact it came from Canada - did I mention I'd been to Canada? Quote Link to comment

+KlustaDuk
Don't get me wrong, it's a top class unit in my opinion. I use the full range of features and it generally works fantastically. Firmware and software upgrades have always worked, always improving the feature set or fixing very minor issues. What tiny little glitches there have been I have had on every GPSr that I've ever owned. Edited August 14, 2007 by shr00m Quote Link to comment
+kabsi
I've read in a German news group that the new firmware 3.50 limits the text note for waypoints to 16 characters (3.30 had 30 characters). Can anybody confirm or reject this? Quote Link to comment

Ok, this could be a stupid question...but where can I find the Firmware updates vs. the software updates? I'm having the exact same problem listed above; can't acquire satellites and I can't seem to resolve it. Software version = 3.9 and GPS Sw version = 0.00s Thanks for your help. Quote Link to comment

You can update it here - https://buy.garmin.com/shop/store/downloads...145&pID=310 Instructions are at http://thegpstimes.com/2008/02/25/how-to-u...n-gps-firmware/ Mine works fine as it is so I'm of the opinion "If if ain't broke, don't fix it"!
