+LollyBob
This was a great cache site but now it looks as if is going to be shut forever. We certainly did have fun doing the cache that is in there TWICE! Netherton Tunnel I hope that it opens again, it would be such a shame to lose this part of canal history. Quote Link to comment

One of my all time favourite caches that Lolly... Was a great day out with everyone - and I never realised there were tunnels that long in the canal system, what a sheltered life I've lived! Joking aside, it's always a shame to lose a good cache, but this one will be sorely missed! Quote Link to comment

It would be a real shame if the tunnel were to close, such a loss to the whole community not just to cachers Ihope they manage to get the funding to save it Lolly! PS I couldn't help but take a look at the guy on the mini moto Decided against posting a link in here Quote Link to comment

+Jaz666
Hopefully the cache won't be archived immediately, as there have been other tunnel caches that have "found" a way to survive access problems! Quote Link to comment
+scottpa100
Ooooo! You're all harbingers of doom! The tunnel is being closed for a month a survey according to the linked article and then and only then will we know if the tunnel will be closed off. Yes it has a history of subsidence, but they've found ways around it in the past (don't forget as a canal tunnel it has probably been there for over 200 years) and as for the budget cuts, they are budget cuts. They will never be as bad as the budget cuts experienced by British Waterways in the 1960's, and the canals managed to scrape through that (though it was a rough ride!) Keep positive UNTIL the actual yay or nay has been said. Sounds a good cache location though, I'm sure it'll be around when I reach that area!! Quote Link to comment
Deego
I hope they keep it open its fun walking through the tunnel.... Me in the tunnel .. look away now if your easily scared lol Quote Link to comment
+ZoomLens
The tunnel sounds as if it is still open, albeit only for boats - anyone got a dinghy I can borrow to get me to a bit of the tow path that isn't closed? Would be willing to pick it up and drop it back off. That would be a bit of a coup - It would really be taking the specialised equipment to a new level. Quote Link to comment

Or you could try asking a friendly boat owner/user to give you a lift Quote Link to comment
+FunLovingGeocacher
The cache was found today by boat by the intrepid Mr.Dewdrop & Cryptilsoulscrew. I met up with them before hand and hitched a lift. Debatable if still 5/5 by this method, but much quicker than by foot. Saw someone on the path on the wrong side of the fence, walking towards south end. Don't know how they got there, must have climbed around, which is dangerous and not recommended. CONGRATULATIONS GENTLEMEN! Edited January 13, 2007 by FunLovingGeocacher Quote Link to comment

Also, if you get onto the tow path its pretty run down and very wet in places, wear wellies or something. Quote Link to comment
+HazelS
We dd the cache at the back end of last year, and the towpath WAS indeed VERY wet, even after long periods of dry sunny weather. I wore walking boots and had to endure the rest of the day with damp feet. Kids had the right idea with wellies though!! Quote Link to comment

Yes pretty amazing that, they were no youngsters either so how on earth they managed it I have no idea! We noted the path was so flooded that it was flowing down the sides of the walls into the canal itself. Definitely a welly job by foot. Quote Link to comment
