kellyduo
Hey guys, I want to place a cache in my town with a theme of scratch off lotto ticket exchange. I want people to drop off a scratcher in exchange for one that will be waiting for them inside the cache. Do you think that would be breaking any rules??? I'm sure someone else has already thought about it, but I'm relatively new to this and am trying to get some fun caches going in my town. Quote Link to comment
briansnat
I'm sure someone will come along and complain about it encouraging gambling, or worry about the possiblilty of someone under 18 finding it, but I'd love to find one in a cache. Quote Link to comment
Lighteye
Yep, it can indeed be done. See GC9D7E for reference. Great idea, and a ton of fun. Quote Link to comment
kellyduo
Too cool! I'm going to try it. I've got the whole theme of caches planned here in my town that have to do with my dog, Jackson, so this cache is going to be called "jack scratch fever" hee hee!! I know, I know, pretty lame, but it'd be cool if someone won!!! Quote Link to comment
ThePropers
I wouldn't mind, so long as they're not a bunch of already-scratched-off loser tickets (which of course I've seen as trade items). And not to put a rain on the parade, but wouldn't that be called a commercial cache, since it encourages cachers to actually buy something that supports a certain organization? Quote Link to comment
Great Scott!
Yep, it can indeed be done. See GC9D7E for reference. Great idea, and a ton of fun. Here's another: Dollar For Dollar Quote Link to comment
BigHank
I have found, and placed, scratch offs in various caches....none of the ones I have found have been winners, and I hope that whoever took the ones I placed, were winners. What I have tried to do is take scratch offs from Tennessee to different states to place in caches, that way people get a "different" game. Anyway, I think it's a good idea...go for it. Trinity's Crew
We don't place alcohol in caches. We don't place porn in caches. Why would we want to place scratch-off lottery tickets in caches? What are you all thinking? Just kidding!!! Sounds like a fine idea to me. I'd love to find some. I may even leave some! Good luck to you and anyone who finds your swag. Edit: removed extra emoticon. Edited July 7, 2006 by Trinity's Crew Quote Link to comment
4wheelin_fool
Finding them in a cache would be fine, but placing them is another story. I couldnt actually put one in a cache. I bought a few with the intention to do so, but then the curiosity got the best of me. What if it was a major winner? Quote Link to comment
Metaphor
I actually found a winner! I scratched off a $1 ticket, and won $2! I promptly traded it into another cache. If it was a $5, $10 or $20 winner, I'd probably do the same; above that, my innate sense of greed would probably kick in. Edited July 7, 2006 by Metaphor Quote Link to comment
kellyduo
Well guys, I placed it. I put it right near a store that sells lottery tickets. It's still waiting for review, but it's called "Jack Scratch Fever" waypoint GCX0WN. I hope it's a go! I put in a log book, pen, and even a lucky penny for scratching! I hope someone wins!! I'm also working on a theme of caches in my town named after my dog Jackson. Still waiting on reviews of those as well, but we shall see. Anyone in the Northern Virginia area should come and check them out! Oh yeah, As I was buying the lotto ticks to go in the cache I bought a few extra for myself, and I won 2 dollars!! hee hee! Maybe someone will get lucky! Kellyduo Quote Link to comment
Team JSAM
I leave lotto ticket as FTF for my micros and have used them as swag, I am just wating for someone to post a big win, it would be kewl but at the same time.................. Quote Link to comment
Florg
And not to put a rain on the parade, but wouldn't that be called a commercial cache, since it encourages cachers to actually buy something that supports a certain organization? The lotto tickets here support local schools, not much different than a sales tax you most likely already pay for your other swag. Quote Link to comment

Goldfinch593
Here's my scratch ticket cache: Scratch My Bach And another one created by my friend, Bubba Riley (I got the idea for my cache from this one): Scratch That Cache Scratch ticket caches are FUN! And BTW, I LOVE you dog! What a great face! Edited July 8, 2006 by Goldfinch593 Quote Link to comment

Brayden's Brigade
I like the idea and I would have fun with it. Good luck on getting some winners! Quote Link to comment
ElectricBird
Oh, crap. I'm a criminal!!! Hey, I'm 13, and I do scratch offs!! What's wrong w/ that? It's not like you scratch off to find bad things or anything. Once I even won a ticket and placed the ticket-winning-ticket in a cache! Quote Link to comment
Kasakato
What if someone under 18 finds it? Its illegal for minors to gamble in most places. The idea is great, but from a legal standpoint- not so much. Quote Link to comment
Christineincali
I've placed scratcher tickets in caches as swag, and got a nice email that one was a small winner! That was fun. I geocache either alone or with my kids and haven't really met any other geocachers, so anything that prompts a little interaction between cachers is okay by me! (Boy do I sound needy or what?! ) I've also left several scratchers at one time in my own cache and had them swiped with nothing left in exchange. At that point you shrug and hope that bad karma ensures they were all LOSERS! I'd love to find one in a cache and I think that the scratcher themed caches are a great idea! Quote Link to comment
ElectricBird
Legal standpoint my foot! Buying a scratch-off once every 2 months just for fun is harmless fun, illegal or not. Even more harmless than geocaching. Quote Link to comment
Phantom_Dog
I am there! Great idea! Quote Link to comment
NatureGuy360
Hey as long as it's a winning Lotto Ticket for lots of money then sure it will be perfectly fine to leave for me.. or I mean uh Geocachers as a trade item. Edited August 8, 2006 by heyjonathan101 Quote Link to comment
samsonov88
We use instant scratch tickets as our signature trade item. I try to buy the ones that support the Maine Outdoor Heritage Fund, they are only $1, and the kids are the only ones that trade (usually for those McDonald's toys) When I log our finds, I always put the tag line: "Good luck to whomever keeps them, remeber us if you win" I like to look up the caches we left the tickets in and see if anyone won big. So far, only a few small winners. As far as gambling is concerned, I figure any kids caching wouldn't either care about them or wouldn't know what they were anyway and would trade something cooler. +BlueDeuce
As far as gambling is concerned, I figure any kids caching wouldn't either care about them or wouldn't know what they were anyway and would trade something cooler. Leaving alcohol or fireworks allows the child to use the item. Lottery tickets are required to be redeemed. The state lottery office is not going to pay off a ticket to a child and blame you for giving it to them. Quote Link to comment
TheAlabamaRambler
Why do I hear The Roaming Gnome shouting "Bull-hunkary!"? And how far down into the barrel of Trivia & Absurdity will we dig to find something to argue about? OP, go for it! Quote Link to comment
