  1. Whats the process that you use you find a cache? Do you use Google earth? maps?, etc... Personally this is my process: 1) Google earth to get a good overview of the area. 2) Street maps to plane my route 3) Dive or bike there 4) Using the Geocaching mode on my Garmin to get within 100ft of the cache 5) Then I go co-do, by co-od to get me within 10ft 6) Stop and look This process seems to working for me, but is there any way to make it more streamline? Maybe there's a more effective way to use my GPS?
  2. I have lost my little Bluetooth PDA GPS. It was on my bike and I was doing some urban riding. I must of fell off somewhere along my 20km route. Retraced my steps two times, taking over 3 hours and was unable to find it. O well, gave me a reason to get a new one.
  3. Re-call them! Depending on the rep, you may or may not get service. I would say your just unlucky.
  4. Almost ever LCD screen is made to the type of unit. Ask Garmin if they will replace it if you pay for it.
  5. How do you guys find caches with your GPSs. I was using the geocaching mode with my Legend C but it only brought me to within 10m of the area. And that's 10m of totally tree filled space. Sometimes I find that by going my co-ods I can get closer. But this varies by the cache. What mode do you mainly use to bring you to the cache?
  6. Which software would be best for my GPS(Legend C)? As I understand the MG has more details than the Topo, making it a large map. Would it be wise to have just the area I frequently travel in with a MG map and keep the way to the cottage, beach, etc a Topo map?
  7. Do you have any problems with accuracy? There was a thread here where something like 13 people had a problem with them being 100ft off. Im not willing to take the chance because its hard to get a warranty return in Canada.
  8. What if someone under 18 finds it? Its illegal for minors to gamble in most places. The idea is great, but from a legal standpoint- not so much.
  9. How do I upload my caches to my GPS? I am using a Legend C with MapSource. I have already got a .gpx file with 100 of the nearest caches using pocket queries.
  10. Thanks for the pic. Would you say that the screen is big enough to see enough details on a map?
  11. How big is the screen on handheld GPS units? The eTrex Legend C lists a size of 1.3"w X 1.7"h. I just drew that out and it doesn't look big at all. Maybe I am missing something? Could anyone post a pic of their Legend C in their hand?
  12. Someone made their own rock with a hollow core and hid the cache under that.
  13. I made a quick little 10 min battery holder out of wood. Drill 2 1/2" (I think thats what I used) in a block of scrap wood, make a cover, screw in a hinge and ta-da. Shock and more or less weatherproof.
  14. Sounds good! I have found a local seller up here in Canada who has it for $150 cash. I think I will make the offer.
  15. In June when I had to get a "free" replacement for my invisibleShield, the replacement was in a blister pack that included a piece of thick flat plastic (for using as a squeegee), a spray bottle of application solution (water?), and the shield film itself. The blister pack shipped in a padded envelope. Not like when I got my original shield in a regular #10 envelope. Dont waste your time with invisble shields. Way, way over priced. Take a look at: http://www.bestskinsever.com/servlet/StoreFront Exactly the same product, just a differnt pice. I have a sample from both stores and both are exaclty the same stuff.
  16. How do you like your Legend C? How much did you get it for? I was thinking about buying one from a dealer.
  17. Topo maps are a lot smaller than street maps as far as I can tell. Would it be a good idea to get the street maps for my area (8mb) and then the topo maps for the route to my cottage (12mb). My GPS only has 24mb of memory. How big are waypoints and routes to save?
  18. IS there any way to add the POI without adding the maps?
  19. How would you guys say the auto routing and update"ness" with the MetroGuide 4 is? Is it worth getting for a area like Toronto?
  20. Thanks everyone. I already have got the Canada Topo maps from a GPS unit. I think I will also get the MetroGuide because it is cheaper and its unlocked.
  21. Can I have ~20 Topo maps as well as ~10 City Van8 maps on my GPS at once? The issue is not space, but rather if I can actually do it? How will the GPS sort them? Can I pick if I want to use Topo or City Nav maps?
  22. Can someone explain what the different Garmin maps do and are used for? In the Trails category I get one map: Topo Canada- as I understand this is best for geo caching because it has the most off trail maps? In the Road category I get 3 maps: -City Select® North America v7 - City Navigator® North America v8 -MetroGuide® Canada v4 Whats the difference between all the maps? Which is best for geocaching? Which is best for using on the road?
  23. I have got my hands on a copy of the Topo Canada maps. It looks like 24mb is exactly what I need. Looks like I will be buying it.
