alistair_uk
Following a request to keep the Trigpoint section alive on WM.com here there was a lot of people who were completely uninterested or against the idea. The original poster considered such comment as immature and closed the tread, but I did not consider it immature and debating weather we should keep it alive seemed very much on topic. As a result, and the fact that I was interested in peoples views I have decided to try and continue the conversation. Quote Link to comment
+Moote
Well done Alistair for restarting a thread. Here is my arguments against this and Waymarking as a whole 1. Waymarks Do not count to your GC.com totals, where as the old Locationless, Virtual and Earth caches did. 2. Why is it that the US can have their Benchmarks on here (GC.com) but the UK can't 3. The Waymarking site is so poorly designed, functionality is basically none existent. 4. This is a solution looking for a problem, thing is the problem is the solution Edited June 25, 2006 by Moote Quote Link to comment
lakeuk
The original post was calling on those "interested in Waymarking and in particular UK trigpoints", the thread moved away from it's original intension so naturally the OP closed it. Yes there are lot's not interested in wm.com (me one of them), but think it would be good to show trig locations on the site and also do "The Forester"s idea of putting a link to TrigpointingUK to help promote that site. +mongoose39uk
Ok, the original post was off topic. It was about Waymarking not caching so should have been on the Waymarking forum. There are plenty of oppotunities to log trigs on tuk and other sites so why repeat this on Waymarking? If Benchmarks are on the GC site then surely they should either be moved to waypointing or trigs be moved on to caching. The problem being anyone could log them as all you need to do is go onto tuk and get all the details. Quote Link to comment
+Kitty Hawk
As someone who does log trigs I am keen that TrigpointingUK is supported. I wish more people logged trigs on TrigpointingUK. If trigs are on the Waymarking website, it may attract more people to trigpointing, who will inevitable discover TPUK and hopefully use it. I don't see that Waypointing will draw people away from Trigpointing so I don't see any disadvantage to it having the category, except maybe a people may be put off trigpointing... Also, if you use TPUK and you are a Firefox user there is a Greasemonkey script that makes your trig stats show up on your geocaching stats. (search for posts by Southseekers) Quote Link to comment

+Bambi&Thumper
I wish more people logged trigs on TrigpointingUK. If trigs are on the Waymarking website, it may attract more people to trigpointing, who will inevitable discover TPUK and hopefully use it. A little while ago, we found our first Trigpoint when hunting for a cache near Manside Cross (GCG5F8). We saw it on the map near the cache and since I hadn't seen one of these close up since doing DofE some 15 years ago I suggested we go and find it... One slightly twisted ankle and several nettle stings later we'd found it and decided to take the coordinates and I blithely made some comment about being able to log it on WM.com since we couldn't log it on GC.com - Thought it would be a good oportunity to try out the new site. Have to say I agree with all the comments about the difficulty navigating it etc, but nevermind that now, and eventually we found the right category... and a link to T:UK. Had heard about these excentrics who hunt Trigpoints and T:UK on the forum, so thought we'd investigate the site. Five Trigpoints later, we use the site (and log them on WM.com too); I'm sure we will log many more, although it will always remain a sidline from caching to us. We have also discovered that we really like some of the longer walks to Trigpoints which often seem to have nice views though... Bambi. PS You can also add your Trigpoint stats to your profile page in the same way as you can include your finds and hides in a nice little box (I stole it from Alistair's page BTW...). You use the following html: <a href="http://www.trigpointinguk.com/info/view-profile.php?u=xxxx" target="_blank"> <img border="0" src="http://www.trigpointinguk.com/mytrigs/statsbar.php?u=xxxx&txt=www.TrigpointingUK.com"> </a> But replace the xxxx with your T:UK identity code which you can find by going to "My Trigs" and clicking on one of the maps and it's the number in the address bar at the end: http://www.trigpointinguk.com/trigs/view-map.php?u=xxxx Bambi. PS Sorry Alistair if this was a cute little trick of yours and you wanted to keep it to yourself, but we thought it was excellent publicity for T:UK and shamelessly stole it... Quote Link to comment
