+ryme-intrinseca
I'm having a 'thick' day today - must be because it's friday, and my brain is scrambled! I have just solved a puzzle cache, and wanted to see where the co-ordinates I have found appear on a map. I have tried multimap, but this seems to either let you do a non - USA search, or a latitude / longitude search, but not both. I have tried Street Map, but can't get my head around how to type in the co-ordinates - if they are e.g... N51.AB.CDE W003.FG.HIJ ...can someone tell me how to enter these so that Streetmap understands them please? I know I've done it at some stage before, but can't remember how, and the 'help' page is just confusing me even more. I have also tried Google Earth, as you can manually move the cursor until you find the co-ords, but for the area I need, the resolution is not particuarly high. Any help would be appreciated! Deego
dont forget Streetmap uses Hdd.mm.sss not Hddmm.mmm so you will need to convert the decimal min's into seconds Nxx,xx.xxx wx,xx.xxx Edited April 7, 2006 by Deego Quote Link to comment

+ryme-intrinseca
Brill, thanks everyone! I think I used the 'grid convert' thing last time, forgot about it this time. Cheers for all your help! Quote Link to comment
Deego
If you use GSAK you can right click the cache and select correct coords, then when you show using streetmap it will be in the correct place on the map automagicly. Quote Link to comment
+Learned Gerbil
http://benchmarks.org.uk/map.php?c= Then type in what you want - it seems very forgiving. Quote Link to comment
+adambro
Another vote for Google Maps (or Google Earth). It will accept coords in just about any format. Quote Link to comment
+Brenin Tegeingl
Some one will be able to tell you where to get it from (sorry I can't remember) . If your using FireFox there is a button you can add on to your tool bar where you can write or paste the coordinates, which will show you the location on a 1:50 000 map (Streetmap) OS? maps. Thanks LG since I orginaly started using it, it has survived several upgrades to FireFox with no problems Dave Quote Link to comment
+Learned Gerbil
I use it al lthe time, but if you don't have coordinates on a webpage to select - just launch the script which opens the URL above, and type in the coords - as I said, it is very forgiving! Quote Link to comment

Dave I updated the map linker recently so as well as accepting normal geocaching coordinates it now accepts OS grid references and post codes. There's also a page to automatically generate the button you mention for Firefox and IE. The advantage of using this button is that it all you have to do to get a map is highlight some coordinates (or a post code) on any webpage and click the button. The main page can be found here: http://benchmarks.org.uk/map.php The button (called a bookmarklet) generator can be found here: http://benchmarks.org.uk/bookmarklet.php Further information can be found here: http://benchmarks.org.uk/maphowto.php Gary Quote Link to comment
+Nellies Knackers
If you use firefox create a bookmark in the bar at the top and change the link to "java script:void(setTimeout(%22bmsorguk=new Date();void(window.open('http://benchmarks.org.uk/map.php?size=5&c='+escape(window.getSelection()),'w'+bmsorguk.getTime()))%22,10));" (without the quotes) then if you highlight the coordinates and click the bookmark you will get a new browser window with the map and arrow, there is a version about for IE too that is slightly different. +wigglesworth
I have found a link to multimap which gives a whole range of maps including OS maps. List the caches via GSAK Right click select custom URL then multimap option Works fine for me and savesopening caches pages and streetmap - all performed by single click on GSAK. Peter Sorry i misunderstood, yes Deego did mention GSAK and is correct that GSAK can link to Streetmap. What I corrected was his remark on inputting HDD MM.mmm not being possible in Streetmap, it is an acceptable format Quote Link to comment
Deego
Sorry about my duff info You can add custom URL via tools > options > html (tab) then add Streetmap(50k)=http://www.nearby.org.uk/streetmap.cgi?latd=%lat&longd=%lon or streetmap.co.uk=http://www.streetmap.co.uk/newsearch.srf?newmap=mapp&newsearch=searchp&name=%lat,%lon&st=3&submit=search&type=LatLong Edited April 8, 2006 by Deego Quote Link to comment
+ryme-intrinseca
Just to say thank you again to everyone who has helped. The Firefox information was especially useful - so easy, and I didn't realise it could be done before! I now have a big list of puzzle caches to look at, and am working through them slowly. One further tiny question, re. Streetmap - does anyone feel that elements such as road width, etc. are exaggerated on this site? For one puzzle cache, I typed some co-ords in, and tried finding them on Streetmap and Google Earth. Google showed them to be in a park, Streetmap showed them to be in a river! Hmm, terrain 1.5 - I wonder which one is more likely??! Quote Link to comment
+wigglesworth
Thanks for the method to insert streetmap into links. Works great. Peter Quote Link to comment
