  1. Thanks Jango, I'll openly admit my map-reading skills leave a lot to be desired. And wasn't planning on relying on the GPSr for navigation. My first (and only) Munro? Ben Nevis May 2005 To be honest I don't consider myself to be that experienced in "mountain environments" That's why I'm looking forward to this oportunity of walking with someone that is. Walking on the flat? Now that's a different story.....
  2. Thanks, I've already got the contours maps from here. So you think it's worth buying the Garmin topo maps. Does anybody else think so?
  3. Thanks Nick, I've just bought the SMC GPS data disk. I'll post an update when I've had a chance to look at the tracks.
  4. I've been through the Google and forum searches and found nothing. Does anybody know where I can download tracks for the Cairngorns please? I've been invited to go up to Scotland later in the summer to climb Lochnagar. I have no knowledge of the area, and as a back-up to my friend's talents and skills in climbing and navigation, thought I'd try to put my GPSmap 60CSx to good use. TIA
  5. I don't know about the mapping softwarecompatability, but Shirley the 60CSx is more robust than an eTrex??
  6. No I don't think we can. How about assuming that I'm waiting for permission for my first cache, and some/most of the others don't see the need to justify their caches.
  7. We're in Suffolk. MasqueradeUK Nick & Ginny
  8. Just did a google for coordinate converter and found: http://www.streetmap.co.uk/gridconvert.html HTH
  9. How do I drop off a TB apart from whilst logging a find? I have (quickly) checked the FAQ....
  10. I found my first GeoCoin this week! I've checked the cache log, and the person who placed the coin, hasn't logged their visit yet, so the coin is "in their hands". Do I wait until after he's logged his visit to then log mine, or do I just jump in and grab it? I've dropped him a mail asking him if he's going to log his visit soon.
  11. I'm never very good at making up names, so tried to use Masquerade, but it was already taken. In the '90s Ginny and I used to be in a band of the same name. Thought it might be a little more imaginitive that Nick&Ginny.
  12. Dixons at Gatwick don't sell any Garmin, or any hand-helds Found my first cache today, without any GPS! It's so close to my home, I've been past it many times. Has anybody had any dealings with GPSonline.co.uk ? He's got an eBay shop. Vista Cx @ £279.95 good deal?
  13. Thanks everyone for your very thorough replies. Where would be the best place to buy a Vista Cx? I'm passing through Gatwick airport soon, would Dixons Duty-Free have one?
  14. City Navigator Europe v7 is what it says on the case. (I paid foir the upgrade from v6) Although second-hand, I did manage to get registered with Garmin with the streetpilot 2610. So if I've got spend more money on seperate mapping for a handheld device, what else would you suggest for my baptism into Geocaching????? I quite liked the look of the Etrex Vista Cx What mapping software would I need to buy on top of the unit? (assuming I want to keep to "official" Garmin software) Is there a unit I could "overlay" ordnance survey maps? That would be my preferred display
  15. Hello, I've already got a streetpilot 2610, and Mapsource Europe v7. If I bought an eTrex Vista Cx would I be able to use the same Mapsource software with both GPS units? Also, my partner needs another GPS in her car, could I use 3 units with one Mapsource? (Looking at the Nuvi 350) TIA
