eranou
I was browsing through the numerous cache listings earlier and got to thinking - what was the first ever/longest standing cache placed through the Geocaching.com site both worldwide and in the UK? Quote Link to comment
S&G.Davison
UK is easy ... europes first .. GC43 Scotlands First GCF0 Englands First GC171 all got from the advanced search at UK Geocaching web page HTH Quote Link to comment
Haggis Hunter
Europes first isn't exactly still the original, as it was muggled and replaced by another person in a different place. However Scotland's first is still there and is the UK's first geocache. Quote Link to comment
dino-irl
UK is easy ... europes first .. GC43 Which is actually in Ireland....pssst thats not the UK Quote Link to comment
Alibags
Yes, I think it's fair to say that 'europe' is not in the UK either! The English one, View from Coombe Hill continues along quite nicely. Myself and JollyJax popped up there for a spot of maintenance last weekend, as we were in the area. Dan has adopted it, but I think all the local geocachers are proud of it and lovingly nurture it. It also contains a pair of binoculars for enjoying the view of Chequers, which seem to have been there since the beginning, without being nicked. Cool! +dino-irl
Yes, I think it's fair to say that 'europe' is not in the UK either! Ah, but that's the name of the cache and AFAIK it was the first in Europe not just Ireland Quote Link to comment
eranou
The one at Coombe Hill looks worth a visit, sounds quite a big cache - one of the biggest? Quote Link to comment

I would think that the oldest active cache in the US may be the oldest active cache in the world. It is Mingo in Kansas, GC30 Quote Link to comment
eranou
Thanks for the posts, i'm trying to get more of an idea about the sport and the forum seems to be the best place. Read a thread yesterday about 'Mr Lovelock' - interesting! Quote Link to comment

The Blorenges
Just want to put in a mention of the first in Wales....which, strangely enough, is called The First in Wales GC2BA. We have a particular attachment to this one as it's at 520m on top of Blorenge, near Abergavenny, and it was the first geocache we ever found (May 04). It's was quite a tough challenge for a first search and we spent about 45 minutes scrambling over identical-looking piles of rock. Just at the point when we were thinking "This has to be one of the stupidest games ever thought up...it doesn't work..." we found it! Henceforth, we are The Blorenges. It was originally placed by "Glyndwyr" but I don't think he's around any more (Does anyone know of his whereabouts?) and it has now been adopted by The Gecko's. Quote Link to comment
Pharisee
............it was the first geocache we ever found (May 04). It was my 1001st cache.... and a cracking walk across the moor. I failed to find it the first time I was up there but found it on my second visit. Quote Link to comment
derrylynne
I believe the first one in Wales is The First in Wales by The Gecko's, it can be seen at http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...8c-8246ff3620a3 Edited August 26, 2005 by derrylynne Quote Link to comment
