nwseeker Posted August 22, 2005 Posted August 22, 2005 Pretty straight forward. I would like this category to include waypoints for every state capital - right from the front steps I think it would be great to eventually collect all 50 states. I'll start right here in Oregon.
CoasterManiacs Posted August 22, 2005 Posted August 22, 2005 Good idea! I could have nabbed Charleston WV a couple weeks ago as I passed through...
BalkanSabranje Posted August 22, 2005 Posted August 22, 2005 There's more than 50 states - or did you want this to be a "sole US" category??
Ambrosia Posted August 23, 2005 Posted August 23, 2005 So, to clarify, you're meaning the Capitol Building, not the Capitol City? That might need to be obvious in the name of the waymark.
halffast Posted August 25, 2005 Posted August 25, 2005 it would give me a reason to visit my state capital.
Firemedic + Family Posted September 11, 2005 Posted September 11, 2005 What about City/Town Halls? They can be just as interesting and have historical significance.
Bullfrog Eh-Team Posted September 14, 2005 Posted September 14, 2005 There's more than 50 states - or did you want this to be a "sole US" category?? Have to agree with BalkanSabranje - perhaps the suggested sub-category should indicate it is aimed at a USA audience?
NorStar Posted September 15, 2005 Posted September 15, 2005 (edited) My usual 'Thumbs Up.' (they should create an emoticon/smilie with this). Town halls I think were proposed as a category and are worthy as well, as a separate category from this one. We have more than 50 states (yes, I know this was meant to apply to states of other countries, but bear with me)? Well, in fact we sort of do, if we include Washington, D.C. and the territories. I would include them. Yes, as sub-categories, there should be similar listings for states/provinces/kingdoms/republics/cantons/duchies within each sovereign nation. +BilboB Posted September 16, 2005 Posted September 16, 2005 I think this is a great idea. The subcategories could be endless...
unimoggers Posted September 17, 2005 Posted September 17, 2005 How about adding former state capitols with a little history lesson attached. Prescott, Arizona was the territorial state capitol before Phoenix replaced it. I believe Tucson was one, too, but I forgot my third grade state history lessons.
BlackstoneVal Posted September 21, 2005 Posted September 21, 2005 Yes and as someone said there are often old State Houses sometimes located in different cities. Should they be separate waypoints within the same catergory of Capitol Buildings? Or another Category on same level (Current and Former) or a Subcategory one level down, so we see list of Capitols by name and a folder or link for Former Capitol Buildings? What about County Seats, including parishes etc?
BuckBrooke Posted September 27, 2005 Posted September 27, 2005 As stated before, city halls, county seats, courthouses and their version in other countries would be different categories. Santa Fe, New Mexico would include a couple. Current state capitol of New Mexico. Current County seat of Santa Fe county. Current city hall of Santa Fe. Historic Governor's Mansion of Spanish New Mexico. A number of other cities around the world would have entries in several different categories.
idahobirdhunter Posted September 28, 2005 Posted September 28, 2005 I vote yes!.... interesting sub cat..... Historical Capitals in US... Many states have changed their Capitals with time....I know Idaho has had three..
