+SuzyJ Posted July 22, 2005 Posted July 22, 2005 I decided this is the GPS I want, it's on sale at Walmart for $199 and looks like it has everything we think we need. Since it's almost midnight I'm waiting until tomorrow... I feel like it's Christmas Eve. I can live without color.... right? Quote
+Robespierre Posted July 22, 2005 Posted July 22, 2005 Some people really don't like the color screen and end up buying a screen filter so they can read it. Quote
+robert Posted July 22, 2005 Posted July 22, 2005 The Meridians are a nice series of GPS, you'll enjoy it. Congrats! Quote
+LiveStrong Posted July 22, 2005 Posted July 22, 2005 I have the same GPS and it gets the job done fine. Enjoy!!! LiveStrong Quote
+IVxIV Posted July 22, 2005 Posted July 22, 2005 That's a good choice Suzy, it should give you lots of enjoyment Be sure to read the manual thourouly before heading out. And, it would be good practice to learn using the unit in a comfortable setting before heading into the deep dark woods on a cache quest. Try something like, "mark" the mailbox in your front yard (or some similar outdoor object), move away from the object then "goto" the object using the GPS. Watch how it behaves as your near your target, Have fun! Quote
vagabond Posted July 22, 2005 Posted July 22, 2005 It's a very good unit, I've had mine for almost 3 1/2 years with no problems at all and lots of rough treatment, and found over 1000 caches with it. I'm sure you'll enjoy it very much. Quote
+JohnnyVegas Posted July 22, 2005 Posted July 22, 2005 I also also have a Meridian gold, I have had mine for around two years. It is a very good GPS, though I recently bought a Magellan explorist 500, I use both of them, my Meridian for runing map send direct route to get to the cache area. Quote
Pinon Posted July 22, 2005 Posted July 22, 2005 I bought my MeriGold about 4 months ago. I have done some geocaching but my primary purpose is to use my MeriGold for hiking. It is an excellent product. I will be hiking this fall in Arizona and plan on full use of my unit. I love my Merigold. Quote
+AMH209 Posted July 22, 2005 Posted July 22, 2005 I've had mine for just under a year and it works great! The biggest problem I have with it, lack of time to use it. Quote
+Kit Fox Posted July 22, 2005 Posted July 22, 2005 While you are waiting for your GPS to arrive, take the time, to read the online manual. http://www.magellangps.com/en/support/prod...eridiangold.asp I use and love my Meridian Gold. I added the SD memory card, and use Mapsend Topo in the USA software. Quote
+SuzyJ Posted July 23, 2005 Author Posted July 23, 2005 Some people really don't like the color screen and end up buying a screen filter so they can read it. This one is a black and white screen. Tested it out today and found 3 caches on the way home Quote

I suppose I should give some credit to my techno geek hubby Quote

idratherbeinthewoods Posted July 23, 2005 Posted July 23, 2005 Great choise in brand! I own 2 Magellan Sportraks, 1 w/ maps and the other is waterproof. I love em both and would never trade down to a Garmin. Quote
+TeamAO Posted July 23, 2005 Posted July 23, 2005 I can't live without high-def color. Magellan's have good reception, but they're hard for my simple mind to understand so I go Garmin. The expandable SD slot for the Magellan's are awesome because you can have up to, I believe SD makes up to a 1GB, so you'll like it. Good job on the purchase. Quote
+Jhwk Posted July 23, 2005 Posted July 23, 2005 excellent choice, a great sturdy, reliable workhorse. Know you will love it. Couldn't be happier with my platinum - which is a gold with a compass and barometer Quote
