+Alibags
As the original topic in the UK forums has got a bit large, I thought I'd move the discussion here, as suggested. The official race website is here if anybody wants to follow the progress of our TBs from Australia to the UK. Edited April 23, 2005 by Alibags Quote Link to comment
+lathama
i suggest we continue in the uk forum as no one is bothering here Quote Link to comment
Team CharlieParker
although it doesn't seem that there's much to discuss so far with only 1 mover or should that be jumper! Quote Link to comment
+the hermit crabs
I just glanced at the list of bugs in the race -- we're rooting for this one! Quote Link to comment
+Sensei TSKC
I think this is the right forum for this subject. Quote Link to comment
+fly46
There's not going to be much discussion between the planning stages through when the bugs start moving. Once that happens, however, I'll be cheering for Reflective Clown and there'll be much more discussion in this thread. Quote Link to comment
+Alibags
grumble grumble grumble... you get a request to move a topic and as soon as you do.... As the TBs will be travelling through other contries (if they EVER move!), I think this is now the most appropriate place for the discussion. At the moment, the wild and frenetic speed of the race is just taking my breath away! Quote Link to comment
markandlynn
......................yawnnnnnnnnnn............. My bet of six years seems conservative now. Quote Link to comment
+Sensei TSKC
AND THEY'RE OFF!!! Ooops. No they're not. Quote Link to comment
+Bekandian
Do Australians not cache very often then??? Ian Quote Link to comment
markandlynn
Have now written mine into my will so my great great great great great great great great grandchildren can enjoy winning the race. Quote Link to comment
+Africard
Not a lot of movement here.... Checkout the 2005 South African TB Race to Cape town post in the South Africa forum... Quote Link to comment
NickPick
Arrrrrggggggggghhhhhhh! Someone's visited the cache My TB's in, and they didn't take any of the bugs! Oh well, I suppose there's no rule that says they have to. Quote Link to comment
+Sensei TSKC
I'm thinking about contacting the Race site owners and asking them to include a 'last time page was updated' so I don't get confused as to the last time my TB moved! Comments??!!? Quote Link to comment
+fly46
I think that these bugs could be hooked to turtles and move faster. Quote Link to comment
+BelKen
I will be travelling to Townsville next Wednesday (18/05/2005) from Perth and returning the following Monday(23/05/2005). If the bugs are still there how many do you want me to attempt to move? Perth at least is a bigger city but they may still take a while to move. Waiting for a ride down the East coast may be a better option. Also a shorter shift to Cairns closer to the International tourist may also be an option. I won't be able to make it up to Carins in the time I am there. If you want me to do nothing at all let me know. Quote Link to comment
+Alibags
I am sure people will be delighted if their bugs move, so take as many as you would like to. Of course, you should really just take mine and leave all the others behind ! The purpose of TBs is to travel, so be my guest, and thanks for the offer. I think we are all dying of disappointment watching this very slow non-race so far! Quote Link to comment
+BelKen
Sorry. Bad news. My trip is off and now I will not be able to help at this stage. However your plight(plights) has now gained my attention. If I can help at all I will let you know. Quote Link to comment
+Bekandian
Never mind, thanks for the kind offer anyway Quote Link to comment
+Bekandian
WE HAVE MOVEMENT!!! Several of the bugs are now in the hands of cachers! Quote Link to comment
+Jan and the Percey Boys
Yippee One of them is mine!!!! Bob Quote Link to comment
+Sensei TSKC
I thought I'd let you all know that my TB HAS indeed moved! Only 0.3629cm and that was probably due to a passing animal getting too close to the cache. Come to think about it, it's probably the only thing that's been near the cache since April 13 (not of course including the daring intrepid GeoCacher - Bob. Quote Link to comment
NickPick
I thought I'd let you all know that my TB HAS indeed moved! Your TB has indeed moved! The Indian-Australian tectonic plate is moving North-East at a rate of 73mm per year, so since your TB was placed, the whole country, cache, and TB has moved 7.4mm. Quote Link to comment
+fly46
I just want you to know that there is an amazing FOUR MILES of combined movement between all the bugs that have mileage. Which cachers didn't get the memo that the race had started? Quote Link to comment
NickPick
Which cachers didn't get the memo that the race had started? It looks like none of the Queensland cachers got the memo. Some of the bugs have been picked up, and are en-route to an event cache next week. Hopefully, there'll be some more movement as the holiday season picks up. Quote Link to comment
+Bekandian
Umm, Australia are entering Winter as we speak, 21 June is Mid Winter for them, so unless people are going out for a Winter break, it might be a while before things pick up! Quote Link to comment
NickPick
Doh! I forgot about that. Still, at 19 degrees south, it's not like the cahces will be covered in snow. I'm OK, anyway, my TB is one of the ones which has been picked up! Quote Link to comment
+BelKen
Townsville is in the dry tropics. The winter months are peak tourist season as people flee the cold south. Warm dry temperatures 14 degree celsius(58f) to 24 degress celsius(78F) average for winter. More chance of movement in the winter months. Quote Link to comment
+Alibags
Eeek! an Australian?!! I was beginning to fear that they did not exist! Quote Link to comment
+Bekandian
Read on the news today "Cattle movement key to TB spread", so ..... Quote Link to comment
+Cunning Planners
Yee-hah! We're in the lead - joint lead, but in the lead!! Oh, but the cache all us leaders are in hasn't been approved yet . We may have to organise a rescue party! Only trouble is we don't know where to look apart from 897 miles from the start CPs Edited May 29, 2005 by Cunning Planners Quote Link to comment
+fly46
I hope the cache gets approved soon! Quote Link to comment
+lathama
Hermit crab is moving! YAY Sadly though its gone further north instead towards the populated south! Quote Link to comment
+the hermit crabs
Hermit crab is moving! YAY Sadly though its gone further north instead towards the populated south! That's what hermits do -- head away from the crowds Quote Link to comment
+BelKen
The cache, In Departure dragon yellow is right next door to the Cairns International Airport. It has a good chance to move Quote Link to comment
NickPick
Two things: Firstly: Yaay! I'm in the lead! Secondly: I'm in the lead because 41.9 miles have been added when the TB was picked up. How does this work? I thought that miles were added when the bug was dropped off in the next cache - where have these miles come from? Quote Link to comment
+KiwiGary
And the "The Glowing Gecko" owner "harold1066" takes the lead by getting to LA. Its half way back to England, will it be the winner??? This is getting fun, and I don't even a bug in the race!!! See ya...Gary Quote Link to comment
