Subject: Trade-in

Hi,

I'm interested in trading my Garmin Legend for a Garmin 60C.

Could you give me a price on trade in?

Thanks,

jp

John,

We can offer the following trade-in credit for your eTrex Legend: Excellent

condition: $85 (70% of est. $120 value); Good condition: $80; Worn

condition: up to $50.

GPS conditions are defined as follows. a) Excellent condition is defined as

being fully operational with "like new" appearance and no perceptible

imperfections on display or body. Good condition is defined as being

fully operational and having few and/or minor perfections on display or

body. c) Worn condition is defined as being fully operational and having

numerous and/or major imperfections on display or body.

Complete instructions for processing your trade can be found at

I wonder how much you could get if you traded the unit back to the manufacture? (does garmin do that?) I know magellan does, though I don't know at what rate or if its at any point or when your getting your old one serviced that they'll offer to 'upgrade'.

Sounds like a rip off to me. Kind of like trading a used car for a new one, one of the biggest ripoffs of all time.  I'll give you $50 off your new gps and then sell your old gps for $150

It's not a ripoff if you want a quick tradeback value for the GPS. It is a ripoff attitude if you expect the business to not make a profit in this transaction, which is the real intent for the business.

In either case, such as with trading in cars to help add to the down payment of a new car, it's the consumer's choice to use this option or not.

Anyway, I found their prices to be more than fair retail. I just bought the Motorola T7200 for $70 to add to the one I bought for $130 15 months ago.

TRUE.

The used value for a legend is only $100 to $120 in a pawn shop. They usually expect 100% return. Meaning they would only buy it off you for $45 to $60.

My guess is they probably sell the used units on ebay or something.

I was right they do rip you off, I bet if you put those prices on the forums, or ebay they'll get snatched up in a second. But I guess like totemlake siad if people are willing to accept that amount then there is no problem.

I am just a tightwad, and don't understand losing that much money by "trading in" something, when you could just sell it yourself and get the real value.

Its not really a rip-off, used electronics are worth almost NOTHING! I think they were very up-front with you by telling you how they established that figure they quoted you.

Maybe the deal wasn't for you, or me for that matter.... but they seemed pretty honest about how the amount was established.

Lets not forget they have to make money too!
