+Milbank
Interesting, I just sent them a email asking about trading in my Garmin Legend on a Garmin 60C. I will let everone know what there reply is. Quote Link to comment
coolclay
Sounds like a rip off to me. Kind of like trading a used car for a new one, one of the biggest ripoffs of all time. I'll give you $50 off your new gps and then sell your old gps for $150 Edited January 1, 2005 by coolclay Quote Link to comment
Neo_Geo
They will surely undercut the true value of the unit - I'm guessing about 15 to 20%. I'm sure you could get a lot more out of your old unit by putting it up on eBay yourself. Edited January 1, 2005 by Neo_Geo Quote Link to comment
+Milbank
Here is the email reply I got from them. I was kind of surprised to get a reply from them on a Sunday morning. I will not be trading my gps in. I just wanted to see what there reply would be, if anything. ----------------------------------------------------- -----Original Message----- Sent: Saturday, January 01, 2005 11:08 AM To: info@freshtracksmaps.com Subject: Trade-in Hi, I'm interested in trading my Garmin Legend for a Garmin 60C. +welch
I wonder how much you could get if you traded the unit back to the manufacture? (does garmin do that?) I know magellan does, though I don't know at what rate or if its at any point or when your getting your old one serviced that they'll offer to 'upgrade'. Quote Link to comment
+TotemLake
Sounds like a rip off to me. Kind of like trading a used car for a new one, one of the biggest ripoffs of all time. I'll give you $50 off your new gps and then sell your old gps for $150 It's not a ripoff if you want a quick tradeback value for the GPS. It is a ripoff attitude if you expect the business to not make a profit in this transaction, which is the real intent for the business. In either case, such as with trading in cars to help add to the down payment of a new car, it's the consumer's choice to use this option or not. Anyway, I found their prices to be more than fair retail. I just bought the Motorola T7200 for $70 to add to the one I bought for $130 15 months ago. The used value for a legend is only $100 to $120 in a pawn shop. They usually expect 100% return. Meaning they would only buy it off you for $45 to $60. Quote Link to comment
nchmura
I wonder what they do with the trade in units they get? Didn't see anywhere on the site they are selling them. Unless i am completely missing something (which is more than likely) Quote Link to comment

coolclay
My guess is they probably sell the used units on ebay or something. I was right they do rip you off, I bet if you put those prices on the forums, or ebay they'll get snatched up in a second. But I guess like totemlake siad if people are willing to accept that amount then there is no problem. I am just a tightwad, and don't understand losing that much money by "trading in" something, when you could just sell it yourself and get the real value. Quote Link to comment
+Bozz
Its not really a rip-off, used electronics are worth almost NOTHING! I think they were very up-front with you by telling you how they established that figure they quoted you. Maybe the deal wasn't for you, or me for that matter.... but they seemed pretty honest about how the amount was established. Lets not forget they have to make money too! Bozz Quote Link to comment
+ValleyRat & TillyMouse
I've had good luck selling my retired GPSr on this forum's Garage Sale threads. Quote Link to comment
+TotemLake
Just to update, Fasttracksmaps.com is fast in handling the order. I ordered my Motorola T7200 and had it within the week on ground shipment. Quote Link to comment
