bug and snake Posted October 31, 2004 Posted October 31, 2004 The thing that is 'not classy' is posting a set of pics showing the way to get to a cache, along with parking details, when the owner has clearly said that he does not want parking co-ords on the page! Quote: 'I'm not posting parking coords. It's a cache......and figuring out where to park is part of the hunt.' Quote

+Prime Suspect Posted October 31, 2004 Posted October 31, 2004 As someone new to all this, I would suspect the moderators to have some control over that sort of thing. Am I right? Cache logs aren't moderated. The cache owner does have the ability to delete or encrypt a log. Quote
+Eartha Posted October 31, 2004 Posted October 31, 2004 It is up to the cache owner to handle matters like this. It's called cache maintenance. Checking on it physically is as much a responsibility as making sure the page stays clean. If it's something the cache owner doesn't like, they can ask that it be removed, they can delete it - but allow the finder to re-log without the hints, they can encrypt it. The reviewers have enough to do approving caches, no way could they keep an eye on them all! Quote

+fly46 Posted October 31, 2004 Posted October 31, 2004 If it's your cache, email the person. Ask them to either remove the information or you'll delete the logs. Then if they don't remove that stuff, delete the logs. Quote

+Team Perks Posted November 1, 2004 Posted November 1, 2004 ...And the politics was where? It's irritating when someone gives away more than I want them to in their cache logs. It's up to the individual cache owner to decide what is not appropriate for that particular cache. Quote
CoyoteRed Posted November 1, 2004 Posted November 1, 2004 The thing that is 'not classy' is posting a set of pics showing the way... Very much agreed. Whiel we do resort to looking at the logs on occasion, flat-out spoilers are IMHO bad form. The problem is the tools given to us. We could delete the log which denies the find, we could encrypt the log which does nothing about the pics, or we leave which forces a change in the hunt of our cache. None are good solutions. I'd like to see the ability to hide the log and pictures while not denying the find. You still get "sit-rep" (situation report) from just the log type. The finder keeps his find. Spoilers are hidden from view. No, not a magic bullet. It's not high enough of a priority to ever get implimented and cache owners have to be present. Quote
+CompuCash Posted November 1, 2004 Posted November 1, 2004 Well………like I always say ‘There is no shortage of stupid people in this world’ and people should also practice better birth control!!!! Don got that right - or more illiterate people than we ought to have == or a lot of people who just don't five a s**** -- or all 3 I'm in DC for a week on business - spent the weekend doing some sight seeng - many areas with nice fountains - signs plainly state to please not throw coins as they cause stains - look in the water and what to you see - but a whole bunch of pennies. who knew - Quote
CoyoteRed Posted November 1, 2004 Posted November 1, 2004 ...signs plainly state to please not throw coins... Huh! No coins in a fountain? That's almost sacrilege. I fully expect coins to be in a fountain. Probably the same people would create a dog park and have signs "Dogs must stay on leash!" What's the point? Quote
+Renegade Knight Posted November 1, 2004 Posted November 1, 2004 (edited) Sometimes the problem isn't the signs saying no coins but the person who built the coinles fountians having an urealistic view of the world. The unrealistic view creates more work for everyone. Now not only do you have to clean out coins anyway, but you have to maintain the no coins signs. However I would honor the signs while wondering what in the heck they were thinking. Edited November 1, 2004 by Renegade Knight Quote
