Rent A Car Gps

I used one of these recently on a prisoner escort in Miami FL, they call it the Hertz Never Lost. I came to call it the Hertz Ever Lost.. This thing tried to take us down one way streets drive on a road that dead ended at a river but told us to keep going straight and pick up the road on the otherside. I finally broke out my trusty Geocaching GPSr and my Laptop and used it. I did notice that there was a way to put in the LAT/LON. It was under the find location search area of the system.

Watch out for the downside of rental car GPS units: There was an article recently in the newspaper about how rental car companies are using GPS to, in essense, "spy" on their renters. They can verify that you have not left the USA and entered Canada or Mexico, for example, and there have even been reports of people being "fined" by the rental company for exceeding the speed limit. All the pertinent info was stored there on the car's GPS for the rental company to verify where, when, and how fast you went. Personally, I'll opt for the "non-GPS-equiped" car and bring my own. :anitongue:

I actually worked for an ambulance company on Long Island (near NYC) that had such a system to track your ambulance speed, location, etc. It was a very sophisticated system and anytime you used your lights or siren, it would alert the station dispatcher.

Needless to say, we found ways of covertly "hiding" the GPS antenna on the roof from the view of the sky. <_<

I rented a car from Hertz and It had a gps in it.(link)and I was just wondering If any of you savvy geeks would know how to put cords in to it. I messed around with it but couls not see a way to do it.

Ive used one of those before.

You cant program in specific coordinates...but if you know the names of some of the closest streets to where the cache is, you can punch those in and be off.
