+Halden Posted November 26, 2003 Posted November 26, 2003 I am considering getting a mount for my car. I am looking at either a model that uses adhesive pads to stick to the dash or a suction cup to the windshield. Any suggestions? Quote
+DustyJacket Posted November 26, 2003 Posted November 26, 2003 that would depend on the make and model of the GPS, and how much clearance you have on your dash. I use a magellan 3 suction cup mount on my car and my wife's truck. I use a swivel mount velcroed to the top of my computer monitor for uploading waypoints, downloading points and tracks and doing maintenance. Quote
+bigeddy Posted November 26, 2003 Posted November 26, 2003 (edited) I am considering getting a mount for my car. I am looking at either a model that uses adhesive pads to stick to the dash or a suction cup to the windshield. Any suggestions? In most cars a windshield mount is too far away to reach easily. A dash mount may work and most GPS receiver manufacturers have them as an accessory, although the adhesive can mar the dash and you still have to reach to work the buttons. I've used a beanbag mount which was Ok although I can imagine it is not very safe in a collision. My preferred solution is the ProClip which snaps into the dash and, with the appropriate mount from the GPSr manufacturer, provides a convenient and safe installation. +DustyJacket Posted November 26, 2003 Posted November 26, 2003 Here is my Magellan car mount (suction cup). The base of the holder rests on the edge of the dash. It is nice and close, yet out of the way of the wheel, does not obstruct my view, and is very secure over bouncy terrain. Quote
+gallahad Posted November 27, 2003 Posted November 27, 2003 I turned a base, using a wood lathe, which fits into the cup holder on the dash of my car. The factory GPS holder mounts to the base. Works quite nicely. Quote
+Alan2 Posted November 27, 2003 Posted November 27, 2003 I use suction cup on windshield with my Vista. RAM Mounts. They have a tremendous line for all GPS's, laptops, etc. for windshield, bicycles, you name it. The holders are swapable so you can hok up to the windshield suction cup then switch to a bycycle handle bar mount to a dash mount for off-trail vehicle or mount it on your hiking stick. Very flexible. Can't go wrong with them. Good luck. ALan Quote
Team Sidewinder Posted November 27, 2003 Posted November 27, 2003 I use the RAM companies suctioncup mount for my Garmin 76S and it works great. With the rubber mounts taking all the vibration out before hitting the gpsr. It's mounting locations are almost unlimited. RAM is also very good if you ever have a problem with breakage. +skeeter-n-lucy Posted November 28, 2003 Posted November 28, 2003 Ditto on the RAM. My SkyFi and my merigold are mounted side by side! When I take a Bus trip (me driving) I use the suction cup mount. Its excellent!! Quote
+Byron & Anne Posted November 28, 2003 Posted November 28, 2003 As far as I'm concerned RAM is the only way to go. Quote
