+user13371
After looking at stickers, buttons, hats, t-shirt and the like, I've been thinking about an obvious bit of licensed gear that nobody seems to have yet. Why not cache containers? I know everyone loves ammo boxes. But would there be any interest in a well made, lightweight and weatherproof plastic box? I'm thinking initially it should be a single, subdued color with a matte finish, and the word GEOCACHE embossed on it. Ideally though, it could be painted any color scheme. Is there already a licensed product like this that I missed? Would anyone be willing to pay a little more than an ammo box for a "licensed product?" Are there any features you would want in the ideal cache container, something that you just can do with an ammo box or a Tupperware? --- LDR. Quote Link to comment
Team Spending Time, Saving Cache
It might be kind of hard to compete with the ammo boxes going for like $3 a piece. But there might be a call for it, it sounds like a cool idea though. Live to Cache... Cache to Live... Quote Link to comment
+El Diablo
Hey you for got to mention my Geo Hiking Staffs But seriously...a cool container would be nice if it was cheap enough. I usually just put a Geocache sticker on my containers. Maybe if you came up with a really nice camo container? Or a container that is disguised as something else? Radman Forever
If you want to sell cache containers, be all of our guest! I'm sure they haven't copyrighted those yet, but I am only guessing. I use ammo boxes, film cannisters, tupperware, water jugs, all for my hidden caches. If you can make, create, or find the ultimate cache, share your wealth with the whole world and REJOICE! +WeightMan
I would also like to see one of those thingys that people use to pick up litter. The stick with the tongs on the end. I don't know what you call them, but they would sure make trashing out much easier. Since I don't know what they are called I can't do a search to buy one elsewhere. Weight Man Quote Link to comment

+Desert_Warrior
Dunno, but most plastic out here in the desert lasts about 3 months before the sunlight makes it so brittle it crumbles. I guess you could develop a new plastic that holds up to UV radiation ad extreme cold well. But then I don't believe you could sell it for less than an ammo box. I buy my ammo boxes at the gun shows in bulk, and get a great price. So dunno, you might become a millionaire, or you might lose your butt. Good luck in your adventure. If you get it, send me one. I will stick it out in the desert and see how long it lasts. Tupperware and rubbermaid don't cut it here. Mike. Desert_Warrior (aka KD9KC). El Paso, Texas. Citizens of this land may own guns. +trippy1976
I think it's a definite seller. However, someone tried to market a cache container once before. Not licensed, but it was a cache container. I think they were charging $20 or something for a $10 bucket that anyone can buy. They put a sticker on it so you'd really know where that extra money was going It was met with a distinct lack of enthusiasm from the community. In fact, that's where umc's Bucket O' Doot came from I believe IMHO where they failed is that to be successful, a licensed container would have to be truly unique. Not just an ammo box with paint or a plastic box you can get from home depot with a sticker. Rumor has it something is in the works which will be unique and something you can't get at every flea market. It will be licensed and sold through the site from what I hear. I think you are 100% correct that a cache container is a no-brainer for gc.com to market. However, it does have to be unique and I think they are working that angle. -------- trippy1976 - Team KKF2A Saving geocaches - one golf ball at a time. Quote Link to comment

+Mopar
Goundspeak USED to offer a plastic ammo box with the sticker. I forget how much it cost, but I think with the shipping it was alot more then a surplus metal ammo box, and probably didnt sell very well. +Renegade Knight
A clear waterproof tupperware type box might sell. It fits the gap between a good ammo box and the 'see though' requirment some areas are starting to have on geocaches. But since I'm a skinflint It would need to beat the price on some actual watertight rubbermaid type stuff I can get a walmart. ===================== Wherever you go there you are. +Sissy-n-CR
It's have to be a paintable, crushproof, eay-to-open container that is impervious to the elements and completely water tight and animal proof--all for less than $3. CR Quote Link to comment

I also didn't feel it was significantly unique to be a 'branded' container. It is possible in the future that we'll provide a container, but personally I believe that the power of caching is the creativity of the geocachers. Stickers are great since you can decide on the container, and logbooks are nice since its easy to identify the logbook from other items (and it's waterproof!) The expense is also an issue, since it has been said before that you can get a sturdy surplus container for much cheaper than it would cost to make it. If anyone has any good suggestions for a design, feel free to post it here. We're not actively looking for a container to sell but if an idea is good enough we're certainly open to making them. As an aside, we're going to have rock microcache containers available soon. They're frighteningly realistic and made out of the same material as rock climbing gym holds.
