I don't think it is possible for anyone outside the region to get this program. The only possibility as far as I can see is if somebody can find a way to hack the extra channels on satellite recievers in the same way as you can with ITV regions.

The areas around the BBC south region might be able to tune into the South region on terrestrial, but that will probably involve turning your aerial around. Might be worth a try though.

It has nothing to do with BBC South Today (which is a news program) so sorry Ben, that wont help you.

I have looked into the possibility of trying to re-tune a (Sky Digital) satellite receiver for each of the BBC regions, which I have already done with ITV.

Unfortunately, BBC 'regions' are not on satellite yet. This will be happening (apparently) some time during 2003. This was confirmed when I checked out the channel listing on the Astra-SES website. BBC London, Wales, NI and Scotland are the only choices!

Ho Humm...

Having now been to the Rack & Manger, where the meet is happening, I think a projector will be a bit ott, but we'll bring along Michael's VCR/TV so people can watch it... maybe Tim & June could bring along a tape of the show?

PPS: anyone going out caching tomorrow?

No, I gave YOU the spare batteries....

Ben is possibly right, BBC South have two newsrooms, one in Southampton, the other in Oxford, however only the BBC South Southampton Newsroom goes out on the regional news feed on Sky. If you get BBC South local news on terrestrial you should be able to get the right Inside Out.

The BBC only do regional feeds for selected regions in the evening regional news slot on a weekday, Inside Out goes out outside those times, so although you'll get a version on Sky, it will be the London edition rather than the BBC South version. The only way you'll be able to watch it is if your normal aerial can pick up BBC South (which mine can't, I asked for a tape after we were filmed).

We are in Arborfield which is about 5 miles south of Reading. Whilst we could get BBC South when we lived in Finchampstead, we are apparently in a bad reception area in our new house. icon_rolleyes.gif

I had a specialist guy come out, who eventually, got us a half decent picture from Crystal Palace (i.e. London) by using a booster, but could get almost nothing from any transmitters from the south. Hence why we got Sky.

It has to be said that the mobile phone reception is not all that hot either - I guess we're in a dip or something!

Having said that we certainly can't pick up BBC South where we are at the moment. Currently sat in the office on Beth's parents ranch in Alberta, looking out over slowly falling snow with a maximum temperature of -2'C today... icon_biggrin.gif

We had a cuppa with the producer last night and the subject of alowing us to put the program on the web was raised.

We still have not had permission to put it on a website but it looks like Auntie Beeb will put it on theirs for us.

That means that we will all be able to see the show. icon_biggrin.gif

The Beeb's producer also called us and made arrangements for the local newspapers to make contact.

They did, and it looks like there will be an article in this weeks Hampshire Chronicle which is on sale tomorrow (Friday).

It has to be said that the reporter told us they would "try to get it in this week".

After a while I will ask the newspaper if we can publish their article on the web.

Could be proved wrong, hope I am.!

There was a trailer for the program after the BBC1 lunchtime news today, and it was entirely geocaching. It certainly gave the impression that gc is the main item.

I had a call last night about something unrelated, but part way through the conversation they asked when the programme was on as apparently someone else had seen one of our wedding pictures in the trailer! (The BBC wanted to see pictures when they found out we were married in Canada and went caching whilst over there...)

I've also just checked my messages and there is a call from the Reading Post wanting to talk to us!

We have had a request to lend the BBC a GPS and ammo box so that they can do a quick bit on Geocaching on the "South Today" programme.

I think this program is on at 6:30 on Monday. Not guaranteed to make it to air, but they will try.

Monday is going to have to be named as "Geocache Day" with all these programmes and news articles going on.

Perhaps one of the moderators should start a new thread on the forum straight after the airing of the programmes to welcome potential new hunters.

Also go the call about the News paper but it was too late to get it in this weeks one now so going to have to miss it icon_frown.gif

The South Today one sounds like fun Tim. LoL. Monday is the opening of the door to many new faces on this website. We will have to greet them all and treat them with respect its good that we are growing into a huge community now.

It is worth saying that if they do do a bit on Geocaching on South Today, Sky viewers all over the country WILL be able to watch it as South Today is one of the newsrooms featured on the BBC regional service between 6:30pm and 7pm.

All you need do is push the red button any time after 6pm, and select South from the regional menu.

Anyway, I have just got hold of copies of todays Hampshire Chronicle, and todays Reading Post. The Hampshire Chronicle has a small item with a soggy looking Tim and June. Reading Post has a FULL PAGE with pictures of Gulliver bear, Chris Packham, and a tiny picture of myself and Beth. I'll try and scan those in and upload them somewhere for everybody to see.

Richard

Firstly apologies for cutting off the top of Gullivers head, unfortunately my scanner can only manage A4, and the Reading Post article is a bit too big.

The scans can be found here for the Reading Post and here for the Hampshire Chronicle.

As to copies, Reading Post is no problem in Reading, but Hampshire Chronicles are a bit more difficult to find (only 2 copies in the shop I got it from around here) so one of the people down Winchester way may be able to help there. If anyone else wants me to pick up a Reading Post give me a shout - 25p.

I have a copy if anyone wants it. Looks like a very damp day indeed.

Nice one Tim & June.

The Reading Evening post did an article on Geocaching today and referred to the forthcoming 'Inside Out' prgram that had Geocaching in it. My friend says the prgram will show photos from a camera contained in a local cache. Which one is it? I'm just curious.

Cheers

Hi Peeps

Just to let you all know that BBC South showed the trailer for the Caching program after the News this evening, and yes Richard & Beth your wedding photo was featured icon_razz.gif (Hee Hee). Dan and Pid were, sort of, shown icon_rolleyes.gif (it was dark!!!! ) and of course Team Tate were shown as the main attraction. But no T&J (perhaps their on the editing room floor) icon_wink.gif

We can't wait to see the Prog on Monday.

If you want to see the trailer again, I suggest watching the Local News and waiting to the end for the trailers for up coming programs.

See you in the 'Field'

Just seen the trailer for the upcoming Inside Out...

All I can say is, "Blimey!" - Geocaching *is* the trailer. Something along the lines of thusly...

Some do it with their families - with a shot of Team Tate.

Some do it with cameras - A few stills froms the cache cameras - didn't recognise faces as it flashed by too quick.

And some do it at night - obviously Dan & Pid.

Find out about the largest treasure hunt that's sweeping the globe... Geocaching, on Monday's Inside Out.

Very funky. Wish I'd not taken a back seat now icon_frown.gif

icon_biggrin.gif

Looking forward to the show on Monday though!

I just realised something.... loads of people will watch the programme... they will log into geocaching.com.... they will go to the page that lists the "new caches for the UK".... and which cache will be top of that list?

I just hope there's space left for us at the pub next week!!! icon_redface.gif

(Mind you, any newbies won't be able to get a meal, will they! icon_smile.gif )

Ahh, no wonder I couldn't find it. My video lists it as "Regional Documentary". The only programme it could find called "Inside Out" was on the Playboy Channel!

Not sure if the compo is part of the "South Today" programme or the "Inside Out" programme but I believe it will be on their website, so I guess anyone can enter.

Or is it that geocaches are placed by aliens from betlegeuse?

I was wondering if the reason for all the "Boy Racing" in the Guildford area was that they were rushing from cache to cache....

And the caches in the New forest were maybe placed by magic!

No offense intended.

The BBC page has LOADS of stuff and several pages !!! WOW !!!

Radio Solent also carried an article about it today as well.

Just had a phone call from the Producer, South Today is definately doing a bit about it towards the end of the programme which starts at 6:30 I think.

Got it on Sky Digital, hope I can get Inside Out too icon_smile.gif

I love the way their GPSr worked in the studio and it led the woman right to the cache. I'd have give nthat one a 0/0 for terrain and difficulty - it was in plain view, and the studio floor is hardly a steep climb.

Chris Packham didn't seem to mention the words 'GPS' or 'receiver' once, just sort of pointed at a receiver and said "You'll need one of these".

I envisage a lot of people going to Maplin or similar asking for a Geocache in the next few days....

Ho ho excellent!

The article was really great, then the preview for Inside out was even better. "Satellite of Love" by Lou Reed as the backing music - well cool.

Thought Dan & Pids comments re "I sometimes think perhaps I should come back in daylight, and then it dawns on me - No" were very funny in the preview.

Looking forward to the actual proggy in 20 mins.

There was a thread about caching theme tunes a while ago in the forum. Satellite of Love was my suggestion.
