+The10Coin
What's with the geocache search engine? I'm wanting to find a geocache to have a Tinkerbell trackable go to. So I type Fairy in the search engine, and it can't find a single geocache with the word "fairy" in it. Well, that is simply not true, because I personally own a geocache called "Fairy Tree" and it doesn't even display that one. So what's with the thing? I'm sure there must be multitudes of caches with that word in them to choose from. Quote Link to comment
+TriciaG
Do not put anything in the first search box. That will limit the search to a 30 mile radius of the location you put in. Leave that blank, and click Edit Filters. When entering a cache name, you also need to enter a location to search in. So for example, enter your state. It'll return caches in your state with that term in the cache name. Quote Link to comment

+niraD
So I type Fairy in the search engine, and it can't find a single geocache with the word "fairy" in it.Actually, no. You typed Fairy in the search engine, and it can't find a single geocache within 10 miles of the LOCATION Fairy. The main search field does one thing: it specifies the center of the search radius. That is the only thing it does, and it does that one thing with ANYTHING you enter in it. Quote Link to comment

Just type in Fairy and include the geocaching.com domain. You'll get hundreds ... probably all of them with "fairy" in the name. Works for finding other CO's caches and just about anything else. I learned a long time ago to not bother using GCs search engine! Quote Link to comment

+cgund
OK I found the filtering page again at https://www.geocaching.com/play/search but I still am wondering why I'm no longer seeing any of the filtering stuff when I click Advanced Search. Advanced Search is now less useful than regular Search. 2.1. Advanced Search FAQ http://support.Groundspeak.com/index.php?pg=kb.page&id=649 I read through this because when I click on Advanced Search now, I no longer have access to any of the filtering tools. All I see now is this: Advanced Search Geocaches are located all over the world! Search for geocaches by postal code, state, country, coordinate, keyword, username or GC Code. New to geocaching? Learn the steps to Getting Started with geocaching. Search for: {pull-down menu defaulting to ALL GEOCACHES} By: {pull-down menu defaulting to BY POSTAL CODE} {box for you to enter your postal code} Exclude your owned or found items from results. Search Types Postal Code - Search by a postal code if you live in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada or Australia. Coordinate - Search for geocaches near a certain latitude and longitude. State/Country - Select a state and/or country to search. Keyword - Enter a keyword to search for a geocache beginning with that word or phrase. Username - Search for geocaches hidden or found by a specific username. GC Code - Search by the unique identifier associated with every geocache listing. All the screen shots at the FAQ are what I used to see when I selected Advanced Search. I click on my user name in upper right corner, as I always have, and then along the right edge of the screen I pass Stat Bar and Favorites and go to Search Options, where I click on Advanced Search. Is there another way to get to it that'll get me to the filtering page? Thank you! Edited April 1, 2015 by cgund Quote Link to comment
Pup Patrol
Release Notes - March 30, 2015 http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=330903 We’ve received tons of great feedback about the new Search tool since its release earlier this month. This feedback is invaluable as we continue to build this ever-improving product. Our team is hard at work on the next round of improvements! We recognize, though, that learning the ins and outs of the new tool will take some time. To that end, we’re keeping the old Search around a bit longer. With today’s site release, we’ve made that page easier to find by adding a link to it from the new Search page. old Search https://www.geocaching.com/seek/ B.
