puczmeloun Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 Millstones: All your icons are great, so so much thank you for that. Only this one looks so "simple" - do you think you could add some "3D effect" - like that it's really millstone, not just circle? I even feel bad to say so, cause of your effort, but just have to Quote
lumbricus Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 Freestanding Columns I know that this is not 3D but I like the front views. If someone could do it better I'm totally happy with that. Quote
lumbricus Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 I tried a Tripoint version: Less colours: Quote
lumbricus Posted October 29, 2013 Posted October 29, 2013 I like it. Which one do you like more? Is this too simple for the 'Current and Former Exchanges' category? Quote
fi67 Posted October 29, 2013 Posted October 29, 2013 I like it. Which one do you like more? Is this too simple for the 'Current and Former Exchanges' category? I prefer the one with the blueish flags, because they are different. The Exchanges icon is nice, too. But I would prefer a lighter background color. Quote
lumbricus Posted October 29, 2013 Posted October 29, 2013 <snip>The Exchanges icon is nice, too. But I would prefer a lighter background color. I took the dark blue because the exchange walls are in this dark blue or black: dark blue/black But we can change the colours, no problem. Quote
dieSulzer Posted October 29, 2013 Posted October 29, 2013 And I'm not sure about these because they are a little bit too simple... Okay, but in category grid, the icons are really very small and tiny. So I think, "simple" is perhaps "more clearly" and better to realize. Quote
lumbricus Posted October 29, 2013 Posted October 29, 2013 Sorry, I can't do more details. The 40x40 is a problem. I looked through the category grid. Almost all icons are in 24x24. Only about 120 icons are in 40x40 (The first is the Inside Airports. The problem is that if the 40x40 will be made smaller for the grid the quality gets worse. Yes, the small version is used often too. I'll check it up with Groundspeak if it isn't better to do only the 24x24. Everybody can proof that, create someting in 40x40 and resize the result to 24x24, you'll be amazed. Quote
Rikitan Posted October 29, 2013 Posted October 29, 2013 (edited) I like all the proposals, but Mill Stones can be 3D and Exchanges not so simple ... maybe like this? or with blue screen / building in background? .. and amateur attempt for Mill Stones 3D: Edited October 29, 2013 by Rikitan Quote

We'll see what fi67 will say, he is the leader. Millstones: I think the millstone should be grey like a stone. Funny, I was thinking the same thing. I like the new exchanges - either color. I too, like the 3D effect of the millstone, but would prefer a color that would look more like an actual mill stone. You all are doing some great work with these icons; it's nice to see such creativity! Quote
fi67 Posted October 29, 2013 Posted October 29, 2013 I like both Exchange icons, mybe the colored one a bit more. And the shape of the millstone is great, but not so the color. Quote

lumbricus Posted October 30, 2013 Posted October 30, 2013 Salt Panes and Mines -> great! For the Framed Views I have something in my mind, I will try to draw it. Quote

lumbricus Posted November 4, 2013 Posted November 4, 2013 Two other icons I thought a long time are: Gargoyles: -> and Sphinx Statues: -> and now we will go on with new ones. Quote
Chasing Blue Sky Posted November 4, 2013 Author Posted November 4, 2013 Two other icons I thought a long time are: Gargoyles: -> and Sphinx Statues: -> and now we will go on with new ones. Yes, both are a much more descriptive icon for their category. Excellent! Quote
lumbricus Posted November 4, 2013 Posted November 4, 2013 Yes I missed good icons for those two categories since years. But I would prefer a sphinx seen from its side not a front view. I really like the classic style icons made by lumbricus. Thanks. I tried a sphinx from the side view, but I couldn't do it well. It looked too bad. Quote
lumbricus Posted November 4, 2013 Posted November 4, 2013 A very difficult one for me, that's the best I can offer for "Outdoor Interactive Science Displays": It shows an interactive sundial like this Waymark: Analemmatic Sundial - Tanglewood - Lenox, MA by neoc1 Quote
fi67 Posted November 4, 2013 Posted November 4, 2013 LEGO Sculptures and Models: Looks nice, but IMHO the connection to LEGO is not absolutely clear. It's a good minifig when you know it, but it could also be Waymarkman. Maybe just some bricks would be more obvious, and the category is looking for something larger than a minifig anyway, isn't it? Quote
Rikitan Posted November 4, 2013 Posted November 4, 2013 (edited) Tourist Stamps Photos: I have special feelings to Tourist Stamps Photos .. as they are like national sport for some people in Slovakia (and Czech Republic). I thought existing icon is fine, isn't it? Or at least it's theme. I drafted my idea quickly (big icon, 24x24 icon, existing icon): Edit: Maybe explanation of slightly different style (shading of "wooden stamp") - it is much more difficult to draw circular shapes just using pixels without any shading. It always looks ragged. Thats why I used shading in the stamp. Angular forms are easier to draw in raw pixels. Edited November 4, 2013 by Rikitan Quote
