+degomi Posted March 27, 2003 Posted March 27, 2003 It seems someone under the alias of PIGMAN is kidnapping Travel Bugs in the Western North Carolina and Upstate South Carolina Area. I know he has taking several Bugs in the Area. I believe the count is at 10. PIGMAN what do you want? Quote
+HearingTurtle Posted March 27, 2003 Posted March 27, 2003 Maybe he is building up a travel bug hotel. It seems strange that he would post that he has the bug if he just wanted to steal them. I hope your bug is placed out in circulation soon. Quote
+brad.32 Posted March 27, 2003 Posted March 27, 2003 Have you contacted Pigman by email to check out what he is doing? ... be friendly Quote
+SeventhSon Posted March 27, 2003 Posted March 27, 2003 Maybe he's trying to be the one with the most TB's in hand at one time. Numbers are very important to some cachers SS == If at first you don't succeed, skydiving isn't for you. == Quote
+CWL Posted March 27, 2003 Posted March 27, 2003 I don't like holding on to alot of TB at the same time for long. Because I have a PTB that I long in and out of all the caches I go to and that list of TBs to drop would get rather large. Also it would piss me off if someone had my TB like that too. Quote
+SnowLeopard Posted March 27, 2003 Posted March 27, 2003 It doesn't seem like this guy is holding onto TBs for a purpose, other than to "play mean" I would *love* to find out who this guy is! http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cachelog_details.asp?ID=174823&L=1014483 http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cachelog_details.asp?ID=183007&L=1061397 Quote
+Renegade Knight Posted April 4, 2003 Posted April 4, 2003 He's probably molesting them then keeping them locked up in his undewear drawer. The guy probably buys barbie undies and dresses the bugs in them for his amusment. All in all, he doesn't need any more press. ============================== Wherever you go there you are. Quote
+spyderman Posted April 16, 2003 Posted April 16, 2003 I live in the WNC area and believe Pigman is building up to a super rescue cache. Quote
+FASTFRANK&WANDA Posted April 22, 2003 Posted April 22, 2003 Now the Pigman has taken to cleaning out entire caches. He took the contents of the Upstate Cache Grande that was placed after the first meeting of the Upstate S.C. Cachers. All he left was a note. What can be done about rogue cachers? FASTFRANK&WANDA Quote

This probably explains why he no longer add his logs to the website, and maybe his habit of taking entire caches (instead of just travel bugs) is a result of this action. I don't know what can be done about this problem, but I'm willing to engage in discussion of ideas. Quote
+9Key Posted April 22, 2003 Posted April 22, 2003 What causes folks to do these types of things - plundering caches, stealing TBs? I just had one of my caches totally emptied, leaving the container as it was hidden. We've had this crap in Dallas and Houston very recently, and I bet other areas have too. Why?!?! Quote

Why?!?! http://www.texasgeocaching.com<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> It's the weirdo factor I was talking about at the Tx. Challenge. Remember: I was talking about the fact that I was amazed there wasn't one in the group, since we all met over the internet. I observed how normal everyone was; driving nice cars and dripping in hardware; myself included. We were all instantly friends. I was amazed. Then, when everything was winding down I mentioned a strange email that I got from that one guy and nearly everyone in the Houston area instantly knew who I was talking about. These are anti-social types that we will never see at our event caches. Some, I'm sure will never join, or they got an account to check profiles. I wouldn't just jump to to the conclusion that it's kids in every case. I hate to be a gloom and doom kinda person, but as I have some training in personality profiling, we are talking about predatory behavior. Food for thought...Myself, I bypass that guy's caches and don't touch is t-bugs. Sngans The greatest labor saving invention of today is tomorrow.... Just a thought. I mentioned in another reply about this guy that he is exhibiting predatory behavior. That is not a good sign. Forums and cache pages are where he will get his jollies over the trouble he creates. Ask someone in law enforcement about this type of behavior and you may decide to travel out of his range to enjoy our little sport. The best thing anyone can do is pretend he doesn't exist. Keep replacing the caches quietly and don't give him the pleasure of knowing your displeasure. Sngans The greatest labor saving invention of today is tomorrow.... Quote
briancm Posted April 25, 2003 Posted April 25, 2003 Hmmm, interesting that this topic should pop up. I mentioned geocaching to one of the fellows I work with, and he immediately suggested doing what Pigman is doing. I didn't condone my coworker's suggestion. Unfortunately I don't think there is much that can be done unless a "bait cache" is set up with a camera triggered by its disturbance. Then you can get a photo of Pigman, hopefully his face, and track him down and file a complaint. "Pigman: geocacher's most wanted!" All of the caches which are easy to get to will probably eventually be raided by some jerk like this. If Pigman wants to fork over $35 and then continue to raid caches, he can do that. The only caches in his area which wouldn't be raided are ones which are multicache, and require a riddle or something to move on to the next spot. I'm guessing that something like that would be too much work for Pigman's attention level. "Geocaching: the perfect sport for introverts!" Quote

I'd love to give that guy a psyche test. I mostly disagree with that last sentence. Although there is truth in it. All the cachers that I have met a pertty much social types. I agree that this is a sport and not just a game though. I've already lost 20 lbs. geocaching. Sngans The greatest labor saving invention of today is tomorrow.... Quote
briancm Posted April 26, 2003 Posted April 26, 2003 Snoogans, there is a difference between "for introverts" and "are introverts." I just got done with KIDNK9 cache. Pigman or any of his ilk would never get to its end. I'm working on something which will be more difficult than this one, and there will not be any cheesy toys at the end of its trail!
