+Blue Canary
Someone is offering a non-trackable Blue Canary geocoin for sale on ebay. I never created or authorized a non-trackable version of my coins so buyer beware, this is apparently a fake coin. Quote Link to comment

+WWC-World's Worst Cacher
You probably ought to start by contacting the seller. It might be that they got a sample or that it is really another coin. Occasionally the factory will send a coin maker sample coins that were made for someone else. There may be an innocent explanation and something the seller would be glad to correct or clarify. Quote Link to comment
+redwingrr
I'd also suggest contacting the seller. I've bought 2 older coins from him and all was fine so maybe there's some explanation. Quote Link to comment
+Blue Canary
So far no reply from the seller. The seller could indeed be reputable, but the coin is not. Edited January 11, 2011 by Blue Canary Quote Link to comment
+redwingrr
Well, on the plus side, I hadn't seen your coin before and it's very nice! I hope this turns out well. Quote Link to comment
+Blue Canary
The gentleman has replied and stated he will remove it from ebay. Now my problem is that I don't know how many more are out there since he says he has had it a while and doesn't remember who he got it from. Quote Link to comment
+LadyBee4T
I know who had the listing as he is a Michigan. I would have to say that he probably has a sample coin. Quote Link to comment

Could it be that someone removed the tracking number to make it look like a non-trackable? Quote Link to comment
+CCWelch
It is completely possible that this was a sample coin that had been sold at some point by the company that made your coin. They do keep samples on hand for a length of time, then they sell them either in grab bags or on a table at an event they are at, like Geocoinfest. One of the companies had their sample coins out on display at Geocoinfest and I believe another had some in grab bags. Quote Link to comment

To get pathtags out of your ebay searches search using this string: geocoin -path* Anything with Pathtags or Path Tags will be filtered out. Quote Link to comment

That's probably the case here, although I would have thought that samples for a personal coin would have been returned to the mint, destroyed or given to the owner of the coin. Quote Link to comment

+mpilchfamily
Do the owners get the option to have the dies or do the coin maker's typically keep those? Quote Link to comment
+keewee
Do the owners get the option to have the dies or do the coin maker's typically keep those? Depends on what was in the contract they agreed to Quote Link to comment
