DragonflyTotem
Recognizing that it would clearly involve some extra work by volunteers already spending a lot of time, I wonder if anyone has considered how "way-cool" it would be to see a bunch of new ECs actually published on 10-10-10? Just saying.... Quote Link to comment
catsnfish
I have developed an EC for the site that our local EarthCache day event will be at. I've requested it be published on Oct 9th, allowing people the opportunity to print the page and bring it along. Quote Link to comment
GEO WALKER
Yep... Me too... GC2CXM1 I'll use this as a demonstration to eliminate the “intimidation factor of ECs” and activate it after the event having told them they just completed an EC… This should also eliminate any FTF rush… Edited September 30, 2010 by GEO WALKER Quote Link to comment

PaneledZero
If you organize an event through gc.com, we would be delighted to support your event by sending you a small package of things to handout and/or use as 'door' prizes. To receive these you need to send us an email (through the geoaware profile) with the code and name of the event, a summary of what you plan to do and your mailing address by the 10 September. Thank you all for supporting International EarthCache Day! Did anyone request and get their package yet? If so, what did you get? Quote Link to comment

catsnfish
In celebration of International EarthCache Day, I’d like to share the lyrics to two songs that I adapted for EarthCaching. To the tune of “Margaritaville” Visit a geyser You can be wiser Out of those fissures water will flow How warm’s the water? Which one is hotter? See that vent it’s beginning to blow Learning again about the Earth’s geology Searching for a just published EarthCache Some people swore it’s a crack nothing more But I see, a tectonic fault I do know the reason EarthCaches are pleasing Showing the wonders of a great view And this earthen beauty It does something to me All of this and a lesson or two Learning again about the Earth’s geology Searching for a just published EarthCache Some people swore it’s a hill nothing more But I see, It’s a grand kame’ site I studied Loess soil Learned about crude oil Dug a hole just to see it fill up Seen the riverbeds wander And it makes me ponder How sandy deposits can form into rock Learning again about the Earth’s geology Searching for a just published EarthCache Some people swore it’s a rock nothing more But I see, an erratics path Yes and some people swore it’s a stream nothing more But I have learned, how oxbow lakes form To the tune of “Country Roads” I’ve been learning, out EarthCaching Shifting sandbars, meandering rivers- Limestone’s old there, layered by the seas Exposed by a roadcut, flanked by liveoak trees Caching smiles, help me learn ‘bout the world, I live in I’m exploring, earthen wonders While I earn, caching smiles I’ll have memories, of the grandeur Karstic spring lakes, sparkling azure water Dark and ruddy, outcrops rising high Misty spray of geysers Backdropped in blue sky Caching smiles, help me learn ‘bout the world, I live in I’m exploring, earthen wonders While I earn, caching smiles I’ve felt the pull Of a chasm deep before me The vertigo reminds me that this world has its way And gazing at the cliffs, I get a feeling That this old Earth has so much to say, much to say Caching smiles, help me learn ‘bout the world, I live in I’m exploring, earthen wonders While I earn, caching smiles EarthCache smiles, help me learn ‘bout the world, I live in I’m exploring, earthen wonders Help me learn, caching smiles Let me learn, caching smiles While I earn, EarthCache smiles Quote Link to comment

*mouse*
We celebrated with a 10 Earthcache cake at our 10/10/10 Earthy Event Disappeared in minutes - cachers are a hungry lot!! Quote Link to comment
catsnfish
Just back from our local event. We had a presentation/discussion about developing EarthCaches and good local sites just begging to be developed. Hopefully we've encouraged a few people to do just that. We awarded a few prizes for winners of a game and drew names for the white pins, hats and EC geocoin generously donated to the event by geoaware and GSA. Thanks for giving us an opportunity to share our passion about EarthCaching with others! we'll start planning next years event before too long Quote Link to comment
TH 1969
Well, I'm not planning an event for EC Day, but I have hidden an EC Challenge cache. Requirement for logging is proof of 50 EC finds. I was going to make it 100 finds, but there aren't that many EC's in the province and I didn't really think that was fair. The cache is hidden on an island which just so happens to be an esker. I have an esker EC nearby, that's why I placed a physical cache on the island rather than an EC. It will be published 10/10/10 Gah! My cache still isn't published yet. I think my regular reviewers are on vacation. Quote Link to comment
DragonflyTotem
It was a good event for us -- wasn't sure how many folks would come but we had 21 attend, including a local geologist/cacher who spoke about potential cache locations here. Thanks GSA for the support & goodies provided! Quote Link to comment

Manville Possum
We logged two EC's on 10/10/2010. Looks like we geocachers have overloaded the system. Things are REAL slow, and we are still unable to upload images today. Looks like all went well on 10-10-10. Edited October 11, 2010 by Manville Possum Hunters Quote Link to comment
Carbon Hunter
I'm getting excited for our event this Friday. Looking forward to getting a new crop of Earthcachers ready to place some caches. We have very few in the Gulf of Arabia - but huge potential. So lets see the outcomes from the event. Even have a visiting aussie cacher in town! Quote Link to comment
GEO WALKER
GC2CXM1 10-10-10 Event GC2FXQR I think things went well for us. Perhaps combining this w/a 10-10-10 Event was helpful. A number of folks were trying to squeeze in a second 10-10-10 Event w/a parting commitment to return to the EC. I personally was overwhelming impressed w/the “intensity” of the “little ones”. But, as always time will tell… Quote Link to comment
lagrac
EarthCaches Rock - The Third Times a Charm. GC2C2FB http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...03-bcb8b76255ae This was the third annual EarthCaching Event that I've hosted. This year's edition was held SW of Spirit Lake Iowa. We didn't have a huge turnout (basically because there aren't many cahers in this region). But we had fun. After a little 101 class, I escorted the attendees to my nearby EarthCache so they could apply whet they've learned. It was alot of fun. Quote Link to comment
