Jonovich
Hi folks, I'm currently in the planning stages for a caching trip around Scotland later in the year. Current venues on the list include the usual tourist locations John'O'Groats, Loch Ness and Ben Nevis (none of which I've ever visited in the past). Can anyone recommend nearby caches worth including on this trip, and indeed any other Scottish or Northern England [ already pencilled in a stop off at the Angel of the North - since I already have the Geocoin for it ] locations to bring into this week long road trip. If there are any recommendations of good roads (unsurfaced) worth a look at then that too would be nice to know, as well as any good camp sites. Thanks in advance, Jon. +The_Westies
I would highly recommend the Seal of Approval cache near John O'Groats. This is my favourite cache of all those we've done. We've never been muggled by a seal before never mind about 14 of them! Maxine Quote Link to comment
Pharisee
If you're going to Ben Nevis then 'Waterfall and Ruin' just has to be at the top of your 'to-do' list. Awesome cache. Quote Link to comment
HazelS
Only ever been to Scotland once, and that was BC.... One great place we found was a small gallery on the shores of Loch Lomand. The owner was so lovely, the paintings beautiful and cheap too!! I'd love to do a bit of a trip up to Scotty land - maybe before or after the mega up there in 2010!! Quote Link to comment
The Blorenges
I've had Caisteal na Nighinn Ruaid cache on watch since it was published back in August. It looks fun ( ) and it's about time someone else had a go at it. MrsB Quote Link to comment
Bear and Ragged
If you're going to Ben Nevis then 'Waterfall and Ruin' just has to be at the top of your 'to-do' list. Awesome cache. Seconded! Visited Scotland 14th to 29th September 2007, check my logs, majority of them are excellent caches! If you do West is Best (*most westerly cache on the mainland), don't forget Lochan Rocky Overhang with a Silver Twist as you drive very close to it! Look out for Simply Paul's caches, especially the "The Wicker Man" series. Quote Link to comment

chizu
In terms of campsites, teh site on Loch Lomond where the 2007 Scottish Cache Bash is really nice, with a few easy caches scattered around. Quote Link to comment
Jonovich
Awesome information thanks awfully folks. I'm going to compile it all together and get a route planned to take it all in. Very many thanks & keep it coming Jon. Quote Link to comment
The Blorenges
You could also try posting your request in the GeoX Scottish forum. MrsB Quote Link to comment
Pharisee
A couple more that spring to mind.... If you're going through Glen Coe then have a go at Rock Hopper (providing it hasn't rained for a couple of day) There's always Scotland's First if you fancy a bit of a climb and should you find yourself in the southwest somewhere near Holy Loch, then Pooter's A Midsummer Night's Dream in Puck's Glen will knock your socks off Quote Link to comment
Simply Paul
Depending when you're going, I've two events in Scotland in June (new dates TBC. Annoyingly my film studies course exams now clash with my original ones) around the 22nd-27th. One's on top of Ben Nevis (on top of the trig point, on top of Ben Nevis, in fact, to secure the UK's highest possible event accolade) and the other on the north tip of Shetland. Cache suggestions: If you're a Python fan, the one at Doune Castle near Stirling shouldn't be missed. Ditto the one next to Loch Tay; the cave of the killer rabbit. It's called Scene 24, I think. I have to say, you can't go far wrong in Scotland. I don't think I've done a 'bad' one up there. Edit: Get over to the Isle of Skye if you can. Some wonderful caches there (Find Him a Wife, and one you can walk to from the Raasay ferry on an off-island) as well as great landscapes and roads. Highly recommended. The whole west coast is, in fact. Another movie cache worth a look is Rum & Eigg, which is on the beach from Local Hero (and Highlander) To pimp a cache of my own, Highlander's Home is a cool spot near a good tourist feature Edited February 25, 2009 by Simply Paul Quote Link to comment

That's a shame, looks like we wont make the event, the trip is planned for May, 15th through to the 24th - if the vehicle holds together for the duration J Quote Link to comment

Haggis Hunter
There are so many good caches up here (there are a few naff ones too though) that's it difficult to tell you. Every single cache that has been recommended on here is great and all worth a visit if you get the chance. Once you have got your actual route sorted drop me an email if you like and I'll try and point out some good caches along your route, well the ones I know of anyway. Quote Link to comment
