+Bad_CRC
how about sharing some pics and stories of those caches some of us love to find that are the opposite of park and grabs. ----- so when the gf got off work yesterday, I got the top off the jeep and we headed to Winona for some geocaching. great weather, good times. she's already near the top before I get there, sheesh. lovely grafitti on a tree peeking out from in the cave outside of cave view from mouth of cave we didn't have a flashlight but a helpful hiker offered a lighter and his cameraphone flash. better than black, but didn't help too much. coming back out another nearby geocache in a tree. She couldn't find it, so I had to climb up too, but I didn't find it either. good day. we didnt do too well though, got 6 finds out of 9 attempts. Quote Link to comment
Tonka_Boy
Wow. Not too many like that in the upper midwest! Might just have to run down from the Twin Cities before winter to get that one. Quote Link to comment
+J-Way
Here's one I found yesterday. The water's 51-ft deep 6-ft in front of me (shipping channel on the Tennessee River). The cave goes about 30-ft back into the cliff. The dirty rock to my right is a fairly recent collapse of a sinkhole revealing a natural arch. Edited August 25, 2008 by J-Way Quote Link to comment
+briansnat
A canoe cache on a small rocky island in the middle of a lake. This one was rated 5 stars, but I thought that was too high. It was on an island in a swamp and you did have to wade through chest deep water unless you found this little bridge of shallow water that I discovered. And the swamp before entering: This was a 5/5 multi cache called Fear that I never actually completed. Here are some photos from the 1st and second stages. This first one is my foot in muck when I had to get out of the canoe and wade and one point. Making our way through heavy brush and phragmites: The narrow tidal channel I was paddling in search of a clue: And a wet me and mud covered canoe after my wife and I pulled out after the second stage because we had to be somewhere else. We still mean to go back one day and finish. Edited August 25, 2008 by briansnat Quote Link to comment
+briansnat
Here is a 5 star terrain micro that was a lot of fun. Here are some photos from a legendary NJ cache that unfortunately went away when the abandoned bridge was torn down. It was only rated 4.5 stars for terrain, but it took some guts. +Snoogans
Nearly all of my 5 star terrain adventures have been during GeoWoodsock 4WD Tours.(Much thanks to Clan Barron & bthomas and co.) This is a mismarked 5-star virt in Grand Caymen: Other than those adventures, I have set up quite a few caches in 5 star terrain adventures in the Eastern Sierra. These are just a few I posted these earlier and cut out the lower level terrain links: A Claustrophobic's Nightmare/Just Say NO to Crack Hardcore Sunrise or Sunset Ode to Ranboze and bthomas The guy in this shot has over 28,000 finds. +mousekakat
I know it's supposed to be 5 star terrain, but we had this happen today and we're just so proud we have to share it somewhere! This cache had a terrain rating of 4 and she took it! All by herself! She found it when pappa and I couldn't. I didn't even attempt it, hehehe, I know I'm old and fat, and pappa's feet were too big to find good places to hold on to the side with... HANNA, however, DID IT!! She was absolutely incredible! We are so proud of our daughter Hanna, she is 8, turns 9 in December, and check out what she did!! Our sweet girl climbed this thing AND she found the cache, we are just SO proud of her!!! +Viajero Perdido
This one's only , but I really enjoyed the hike and find. We FTF'd the cache about 20 minutes after I took the picture. This was after hiking for 1 1/2 days to get even close. This one is also , but it seemed easier somehow. This is a remote beach in the Dominican Republic. I didn't have a car, so the fun part here was getting to the place by public transit. Specifically, shared taxis, the ones the locals use. They're small Toyota sedans, and they'll pack 4 people into the front, and 4 more into the back - so you definitely get to know your neighbors. Until then, I never knew it was even possible for 4 adult hips to fit between the doors of a Toyota subcompact without overlapping, but it is. Anyway, it took 3 separate shared-taxi rides to get to the beach (about 2 hours), and two more rides going back. So maybe I did earn those stars. But it was a hoot! +Viajero Perdido
Okay, one more. This was only rated , but it involved a 2-day detour from my wanderings, a long hike up the hill in the heat, and an even longer hike back to town because I couldn't flag down a moto-taxi at the end of the day. This is a corner of the Dominican Republic that tourism forgot - the northwest corner, right close to the border with Haiti. There's supposed to be a cache, that's never been found, somewhere up on this hill. Can you guess why I came? It was the biggest DNF of my life. Would I do it again? Heck yeah! Quote Link to comment

Skippermark
The Angel at Gardner Lake - GCNN96 A cool cache on an island in the middle of a lake My son Skippermatt and I being pirates and figuring out how to approach the unknown land Ahoy! Matt is on dry land and has begun searching for the hidden treasure Looking back at the pirate ship and my wife to make sure that they're still safe and sound A View to a Cache - GCV7NC A very unique 4.5/5.0 multi that requires at least 2 people and special equipment to find Last minute food before we split up into teams and complete our individual tasks: Matt eying my friends lunch: Matt hanging out while we waited at one of the early stages for the other team to complete their task before we could complete ours Boy they were slow doing their tasks, so I took a nap for a few minutes. Good thing I didn't roll off the ledge. TUC-83 Morey Multi - GC1EWPB A fun multi that involves a neat paddle through a tunnel The team heading towards the darkness Inside the scary tunnel. We kept feeling sea creatures rubbing against the bottom of the boat. No, wait. That was a pile of rocks we hit. Quote Link to comment
Skippermark
Hollow at the Hollow GC1DMXQ Another fun water cache that also involved a trip through a tunnel. Just wish it would get changed to a multi since it's not a traditional. The teams preparing for the adventure About to enter the dark tunnel Quote Link to comment
mlbcard
Awesome... wish I got into this earlier, I've been to some really cool places that I'm sure would have some 5* that would have been an adventure to get (alas, I didn't know what geocaching was and didn't have my trusty gps60).
