Been trying the Pocket query feature - and for the life of me - i can't seem to generate anything but empty queries.

The options i've selected:

Any Type

Any Container

(i've tinkered with various options below)

that:

i haven't found/dont own/do own/ available to all/is active

Terrain/difficulty both greater than or = to 1

within: none selected

(switched a couple times between none and my home state California)

From origin: home coordinates Within: 100 miles

placed: tinkered with varios settings

Right now set to Jan-1-1998 through dec 31 2008

Attributes to include/exclude -

Currently blank - did turn all the includes on...didnt help.....

so i guess i'm missing something really obvious...........

any pointers?

Remember that the conditions are joined with a boolean and. That means that every cache returned in the query needs to meet all the conditions. Some of these are mutually exclusive. You can't own and not own a cache. In most cases you will not have logged a find on a cache you own. Caches can't be both found and unfound. Try something simple -Caches I have not found and are active and use your zip code instead of your home coordinates which are sometimes flaky. Don't choose a day to run and preview it and see if you have results.

Try starting with this set up and then adjust it to suit your needs.

Days to generate:

Don't check any until you have it set up the way you want.

Show me 500 caches

select of any type

Select any container

That (and):

Select the following:

I haven't found

I don't own

Are not on my ignore list

Is active

Leave terrain and difficulty unchecked

Leave country unchecked

Do Select your state

Select By coordinates and input your home coordinates

Within radius of 500 miles

Placed during (select) none selected

do not select any attributes to include or exclude

select output to this accounts email selected

select in gpx format

select compress files

submit information then preview the pocket query

you should get 500 caches

go back and edit one item at a time, submitting and previewing the result until you are happy with the result.

if you just do one edit at a time , it is easy to back track and fix what does not work..

when you are happy, click the day of the week you want it to run

good luck

There has been a problem using the Home Coordinates and limiting to a single State. It is better to input the coordinates manually, or use a nearby cache GC number.

Here is how I fill out one section of the form:

I create several "Date Placed" PQs and use a centerpoint away from my Home in order to get a 90-mile search circle.

the two items in bold red will return nothing. You can't own and not own something.

Thanks. ....and thanks to weightman too. Your pointers were my problem

Being a computer geek, that boolean AND should have registered. I guess I assumed geocachers didn't speak computer....my fault...:-)

And definately thanks to everyone else who replied with pointers....they may come in useful.
