  1. Wow! That was fun. Even though there weren't any near our area to help with, we could feel the excitement. As far as DARPA's intent "to explore how broad-scope problems can be tackled using social networking tools", one would first speculate the current method of throwing money at a problem sure does work. I am interested in their results if they intend to publish them. Like I said , that was fun. Let's do it again. And we'll do it for the smiley (although cash is fine if you want to dole it out.)
  2. Sounds like fun. Count us in for Southern Indiana and Northern Kentucky
  3. Which side of a duck has the most feathers?
  4. I take back my comment. They appear to change after each refresh of the page. They are still written in the page source code of the cache description. Very Interesting, but no help here. sorry.
  5. Hi There!, It appears the cache owner inserted them in the description. If you look on the source code of the page they are there in the description. I have seen this group of characters before and have thought about including them in a puzzle cache. I did not translate the page and maybe it is an additional clue or merely a signature phrase of the cache owner.
  6. I can't think of a scenorio , right now, that I could use, but.... You could (for the hands on type of guys) open another tab in excel (or I prefer Numbers) , then separate the info from the first sheet into column with the use of formulas , then hide the columns you do not want to see or print. I think GSAK, Street and Trips,ect... does this for you on a pc. I know MacCaching, Cachemate, and MacGpsPro does for me on my machine.
  7. both gpx and loc files can be opened by excel or word.
  8. All that being said.... We have choices of imperial or metric units and time zones in the " Manage Account Preferences" and coordinates formats can be changed. It would not seem to to be impossible to add individual choices for preferred date and time formats. Just don't change the whole site!
  9. I think the site should be translated into Mandarin as well. it is the language of the majority after all, is it not? Maybe Obama will takeover Groundspeak and apologize to the Mandarin speaking people of the world and demand the changes
  10. Oh........ Yet my text editor allowed me to see it and copy it. Yes I did understand what you wrote and made sense after the coma.
  11. This is a puzzle, a pq generated before the current fix - when unzipped -- resulted in a gpx file that was useless to our programs and began the discussions on this and other forum threads. When you open the useless file in a text editor - make no changes at all - then save it back to the same gpx file - it works fine. Ok what changed during this process? The two files look identical. Except for (Ôªø) symbols at the the beginning of the file. Seems like I have seen these symbols written about in the forums earlier this year. Still don’t know how they are helpful. Upon closing the gpx file in the text editor it strips these symbol away and the file becomes useful to the mapping and geocaching programs. I bet someone could use this in reverse to make a file that will not allow copies to be made .
  12. I just ran another pq of the closest to my home and the result was a gpx file that worked as expected in both MacGpsPro and MacCaching. Thanks for the quick fix. you guys are the best.
  13. Another thread on this topic is over here http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php...p;#entry3914769 hope this helps
  14. Just another note The fix I mentioned above worked fine in MacGpsPro and I was able to view all the caches on the map. one more fix had to be made to be readable in MacCaching ( gsak on steroids) <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?><gpx xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema" version="1.0" creator="Groundspeak Pocket Query" Apparently the xsd needs to be first then the xsi Hope this helps I use cachemate as well and have not yet check the gpx file conversion, but if it does not export maybe the gsak or maccaching programs out there will re-export the files to a gpx that will be usefull. Just trying to live in this windows world.
  15. Who Hoooo!! you found it!!! The first line of the new has an xsi where it should be xsd I changed the little letter in the text file and it now works beautifully. Thanks
  16. It not just gsak I just ran a pq of our total finds and the resulting gpx file is useless. I use macaching and get a similar error message, i tried loading it into MacGpsPro and it does not work either. Seem so have started after the .loc problem was fixed, are they related? I opened it up in a text editor and can see the billion of text, but an obvious problem did not pop up. It is possible I can fix my file in a text editor. What is the header supposed to look like? I did not keep any of the older gpx files to compare.

  18. If you open your .loc file up in a text editor and use the find / replace to replace all instances of cord with coord (takes about 30 seconds) and resave as a .loc file it will work and opens up as expected in the mapping programs. This might be a work around until the problem is corrected.
  19. I do not use the loc format much and opt for the gpx format, but curiostity got me and Ijust ran a pq with loc non zipped option you spoke of. Sure enough the mapping programs I have saw no coordinates, MacCaching (a gsak-itunes hybrid) saw the caches with zero lat/long coordidinates. I opened the loc file in a text editor and can see the coordinates are there. The format of the loc must be incorrect. The gc.com pq review pages shows them just as you expect. Not sure why the rest of the programs can not see them. Have you tried loading your gpsr with file? What happened?
  20. maybe its the dictionary. do you have choices of hwich dictionary to use in your spell checker? I just can not resist posting the infamous spell checker poem here. Owed to a Spell Chequer I halve a spelling chequer It came with my pea sea It plane lee marques four my revue Miss steaks aye ken knot sea Eye ran this poem threw it Your sure reel glad two no It's vary polished in it's weigh My chequer tolled me sew A chequer is a bless sing It freeze yew lodes of thyme It helps me awl stiles two reed And aides mi when aye rime To rite with care is quite a feet Of witch won should be proud And wee mussed dew the best wee can Sew flaws are knot aloud And now bee cause my spelling is checked with such grate flare Their are know faults with in my cite Of nun eye am a wear Each frays come posed up on my screen Eye trussed to be a joule The chequer poured o'er every word To cheque sum spelling rule That's why aye brake in two averse My righting wants too pleas Sow now ewe sea wye aye dew prays Such soft wear for pea seas
  21. yeah! what Lil Devil said. Except I would add -- After you write and submit the log Click on the visit log link and copy the url of that page into the brackets. It should look like {url=http://www.geocaching.com/seek/log.aspx?LUID=21825a72-37f2-44af-8a96-fb0cc90d4bbd}similar to this{/url} similar to this
  22. here are some links you might find useful. Knobstone caches along the route Knobstone mile markers I have checked and verified quite few of the mile marker coordinates in the field. the rest are close. Indiana Outfitters Knobstone page Campgrounds are located at Delaney Park (812-883-5101), Clark State Forest (812-294-4306), and Deam Lake State Recreation Area (812-246-5421). If these links don't work right away , email me for the links and file. Good luck
