If a user gets deleted,

Even a banned member will still have their (frozen) profile displayed. A member's name would only fail to appear in a search if they changed their username.

Even archived caches should still show up in a search by waypoint code. Only a retracted cache would no longer show up on any searches.

Could you post the GC number(s) for the cache(s) you are asking about?

I found the link to the page in my software:

http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...33-01ba293ab057

It's archived, which means I can't search for it.

And it looks like the user (DOG-BREATH) redirects to daveydude (a very prominent cacher in my area)

The hidden by space may be filled in with anything (almost) that the hider desires. The link will still direct you to the actual hider's profile. In this case daveydude hid the cache and chose to use DOG-BREATH in the hidden by area for whatever reason. That is not really a redirect, but a link to the hider's profile.

This is going to sound like a newb comment, but I honestly didn't know that users could be permanently banned from the site. Just out of morbid curiosity, what atrocities would merit that, and about how often does it happen? (I understand that exact figures and names and such are confidential.)

I've seen it for harassment of others (of non-geocachers once believe it or not), posting pornographic material, placing micros in woods, stuff like that.

I see now, thanks.

...wait... placing micros in the woods? Annoying, of course, but I didn't know it's explicitly against the rules. There must have been extenuating circumstances in that case. (Don't go into detail, it can only lead to bad things.)

Aw, thanks for clearing that up. :o

Not exactly true. You could go look if you wanted. If geo-trash is left i would pick it up in some circumstances. I hate it when cachers leave trash.

I meant I couldn't search for it on gc.com, I already tried looking in the field :o
