MaplessInSeattle
Would you participate in a Winter CITO in Mid-January? I just stumbled upon some horrible trash areas. Parks Dept has agreed to help out, but I don't want to plan a CITO, only to find that no one would attend because of the cold weather or bad conditions. I would like to know what people in the area think. I've had some people message me stating they would help out, but obviously I will need more than one or two people to attend, in order to make this a success. Quote Link to comment
intolerable
I would be interested. I was actually just checking out volunteering with the WTA but it doesn't sound like something that I could involve my son in. A CITO event that I could bring my son along for would be great, and a really good learning experience for him. Quote Link to comment
Half-Canadian
Here's the link to a CITO that I held in January that was quite well received, despite the fact that it was raining lightly and near freezing. A lot of the success, at least in this case, was the "marketing" of the event Are You On The Winning Team? Quote Link to comment
MaplessInSeattle
My biggest concern with waiting until spring is that there is just too much trash. By my estimates, it's at around three Garbage trucks full, and i'm not done searching. I've been waypointing the major trash areas. I'm wondering if I post pics if that would help to encourage some people to help? Quote Link to comment
Allanon
Where is this place you are talking about? Quote Link to comment
MaplessInSeattle
Where is this place you are talking about? 4 blocks North of the SeaTac Airport in North Seatac Park The park is 165+ acres way too much park to manage for the small crew they have. The parks operations lead proposed the idea to his bosses and they loved it. Now it is just a matter of getting bodies, and scheduling the event. I'm wanting to have more than one event here of course, because there is no way to do it all in one day, or even one weekend. Quote Link to comment
WATreasureHunters
I would be interested, and as a bonus, it is close to home, AND a park that I frequent. The temp. is really not the issue to me, in winter CITO but the rain. However, barring a monsoon, I would love to attend. Quote Link to comment
CACHE KRAWLER
You can sign me up! As long as Uncle Sam doesn't have anything for me that weekend I'd love to throw my hat in on this one. Quote Link to comment
MaplessInSeattle
Cool, once the snow melts, and the floodwaters subside, I'll talk have a meeting with the parks people. Anyone want to volunteer to come with me when I sit with them? It would be at the Maintenance office, on 136th St. in SeaTac. I'm sure they'd love to see someone besides the same guy they always see. +MaplessInSeattle
I've got a few other cachers on the list. We're up to about 5 now that have agreed this is a good idea. To give you an idea of the scale of the problem. You can see the trash in this park from google satellite photos. Quote Link to comment
seattlegeekgrrrlz
This is close to home for us as well. Barring monsoon or out of town travel we would attend. I tend to go to the south seatac park to noodle around on my mtn bike, and driven past the north seatac park all the time. Never actually stopped there though. Quote Link to comment
WeightMan
Depending on the date, I might be available. I don't mind cold, I don't mind wet, but I don't like cold AND wet. Quote Link to comment

intolerable
We could use some more people at this event =) Later today I can see about possibly donating something for a giveaway to encourage people to attend. I would have to order something and it would depend on whether it would arrive in time, but I don't expect that would be a problem. A coin or t-shirt or something like that... sound like a good idea? Sounds awesome! We'd love to but being poor kinda sucks. I plan to get sponsorship for the next event, because it should be much larger in scale, and will be located in the main part of the park, which may attract a bit of attention. This is like the beta test for that cache event. If this goes smoothly, then we'll make sure the next one is super cool. Quote Link to comment

Well, it won't be anything *super cool* as we're not exactly rolling in it, but its a good cause. And hey, if only a few people come, maybe I'll win ;-) But seriously, shouldn't be a problem and I've even got the ok from my wife (she's in charge of the money :-)) I'll try and find something CITO related first and then go from there. +intolerable
I just ordered a CITO 2007 geocoin to giveaway. Also, tsunrisebey very generously offered to send something to giveaway. I don't know what that will be but that alone would get me to an event in a second just on the off chance that it was one of those beautiful tsunrisebey geocoins. Honestly, I really have no idea what it is though. But I will bring the CITO coin and whatever else to the event. Hopefully that'll help encourage people? I'm still coming and will bring coins, tickets and maybe food/coffee/something, but I might be there a bit late and mostly likely won't stay the whole time. Just starting to recover from a week of being sick. Quote Link to comment
