The goal of the Groundspeak Forum is to promote the activity of Geocaching and GPS Usage. It is an open forum sponsored by Groundspeak Inc. for discussing all aspects of Geocaching, Benchmark hunting, GPS Usage and Groundspeak related GPS Gaming.

Seeing as this thread is a month old and a moderator has not moved it to the "off topic" section IMHO makes this thread a Geocaching related thread.

Flight Nurse on an Air Medical Helicopter here . . .

 

My GPSr is in a pocket of my flight suit whenever I fly and my Palm stays updated with files for all the major cities we might fly into. Never know when you may end up stuck somewhere for weather or maintenance. So far, I've only gotten to geocache on one flight when we dropped off a specialty team at a hospital and there was a geocache on the grounds.

Are we SURE these threads are geocaching related??

 

Um, I don't know.... do you think the words "how many nurses geocache" make this a geocache related thread?

 

Would it be better if I asked " How many nurse geocachers out there have placed a cache made out of a peanut butter jar, shrinking it using one of the cool cache container threads instructions, to place said shrunken peanut butter micro cache under a lamp post and how to you keep your log from getting soggy, how often do you maintain your cache, do you have any muggles or geocaching thieves who have stolen your cache and what did you do to solve your missing geocache problem, has anyone reported you for using a pb jar and it being a "lame" hide and did they do so by writing a "needs archived" log or did they just thrash you on your caches listing page and O.B.T.W. who made your geocaching forum avatar?

 

I must go back to counting cheese now. :anitongue: But that is Off topic. :rolleyes:

 

Also the what brand of flashlight/hiking boots/backpack do you use (non) issues.

Just thought I would check to see how many nurses Geocache. I know I won't get a totally accurate count as there are so many cachers who don't read the forums. Stand up and be counted fellow nurses. And while I am at it... how many FIREFIGHTERS or EMS geocachers. I bet they are the biggest group between Docs, Nurses, Firefighters, and EMTs. :)

Good topic :) I would like if more police were also cachers. Could make life a bit easier at times. We have all learned to spot a cacher a mile away. Walks in circles, forward, back, then around, looks up, down and all around, puts hand in pocket, then stoops down, stands up: repeat sequence. It's like a complicated dance step. I wonder if police that are in the know get a charge out of watching, I know that I do!

Haven't been visited the forums in quite sometime now. Am here now though! You can count my crew of nurses.

 

Gram Cracker- retired OB nurse (35 yrs)

Wild Chickens- OR nurse

Mrs. Mudblood Squad-OR nurse (15 yrs)

 

I have used very small single dose med vials as mico's. They work great! They have a rubber top that keeps things dry, add a little camo tape and waalaa! There you have it, a very small micro in a unique container. We also have a puzzle cache named "Operation" it's way cool, come check it out. :)

To update the count.

 

Nurses = 49

Firefighter = 6

EMS/EMT = 9

Lab Tech = 1

OT = 1

Manager = 1

Health/Safety Specialist = 1

Police = 3

Pharmacy Tech = 1

Ophthalmic Tech = 1

 

Yeah, Mudblood Squad, I have thought about using our "bullet" blood tubes for cache containers. The problem being the tiny logs to sign. We would have to maintain the darn thing weekly d/t replacing the log. Plus all the "I can't find it... are you still sure it's there" logs. I didn't know Gram Cracker was a nurse too... we should start a nursing geocacher coffee group here.....Oh the stories we could tell. :)

I've been a nurse for a bit over27 years. Worked mostly ER/trauma center, also first male nurse to work L&D in Dallas, TX, Also taught paramedics, nurses in aeromedical flight physiology & survival.

I'm currently a medical secretary in a diabetes education clinic. The blood sugar test strip cases make fabulous micros, and they're already black.

 

I was a professional student (with a nursing major) back in 1990-1. Life, however, got in the way and now I have to re-take the science classes because they expire after 10 years. I've been taking a class every semester so I can apply to the competitive nursing program. It may take a good four or five years to get the prereqs done, the rate at which I'm going. Ah well!

 

Would love to be the head O.R. nurse (which, I believe this requires a masters degree, so tack on another few years). ; )

Yes, most "management" positions do require MSN or Nurse Clinician degree/certifications. I did management for a while, but got tired and frustrated with the politics and paperwork, not to mention the ethical compromises the "higher-ups" ask of you.

Another nurse here - hospice for four years and critical care (ICU, CCU, ER) for ~20 yrs before that. Did travel nursing for a few years and just learned about geocaching at the end. Wouldn't that have been fun - just sign a contract for wherever you haven't cached yet?

 

Im going to school to be an RN. After I graduate I'm going to begin a travel nurse program. YAY!! Definately an awesome way to get out there and cache. I'm very excited. :laughing:
