During the weekend of 16-18 October, I will be visiting Kwazulu-Natal for the first time in more than a decade. And of course I would like to add KZN to my provinces cached in! I will be busy in Ballito until Sunday morning, but will be free from 10am onwards on the 18th.

Is anyone keen to go on a caching trip with me Sunday afternoon?

besem - I'm so sorry that our fellow KZN geocachers did not respond to your numerous requests for some geocaching help/company and suggestions!! We feel for you man, we really do!!!

It seems that the Western Cape and KZN geocachers are a VERY tight group...if you ain't part of the circle they are just not interested in you!! Although we think the KZN geocachers are nice people, they just aren't interested in helping out a Gautenger. Must be from the old days when the "Vaalies" took over their beaches??

Us Gautengers are the NICEST, friendliest bunch of geocachers around. Take a look at the dude (hgl) that visited us from Aus - one post and he had a whole lot of responses and in the end was taken on a caching spree of note by BruceTP. He even mentioned good old RSA as a geocaching spot on podcast.com!!

We hadn't really spent much time on the "Sandpit" thread, so we didn't see your request. We have done the few caches around Ballito and could've given you some advice. Hopefully you'll get a better response and some help next time round!!

Im sorry but i take a very dim view on that posting and think its uncalled for, as for you saying they are a tight group i have no idea where you get that information from, its totally ridiculous . Oh and one other thing if you going to quote a podcast please get it right, its called podcacher.com. Maybe you should take the time to get to know them before you decide to post a very one sided comment like that.

I am not sure if anyone did contact you at all Besem. I sure hope there were some. I would have been more than willing to join you on a caching adventure, but alas I am way off the Durban mark. I think it has been very quiet in Durban lately. The sudden rush of FTF's must have drained the pockets of many of them. I hope you were having a good go at our cache in Durban though. I see it is still unfound and the watchlist is growing. This is great fun to watch as the page views get more and more... Wonder how much longer it will stand.

Geo936... sorry that you see the KZN cachers in that way. Trust me there are lots of ready and willing guys that are willing to go out caching together. Guess some just had other commitments... who knows.

All the same well done to Besem on his first KZN caches. Hope to see a few more added to the list.

I was contacted by Boris on Sunday, but unfortunately we were separated by about 50km at that time, so it didn't work out this time. I also had the bad fortune that everyone I know in Durban were either not in town or unreachable. But hey, I'll be back in KZN eventually and hopefully I'll then have more than an afternoon available for caching!

I did have a good time looking for caches - when I knew about my trip, I checked for caches in the area (Salt Rock) and there were NONE, barring Hole in the Wall which was a good 3km away and with two DNFs. But after the 5 September drive for new caches suddenly there were 3 within walking distance. :D (Thanks Boris!) Got those three and pushed on to a fourth (walking all the way from Salt Rock to Umhlali), which, of course, I couldn't find... :D The weather was perfect for such an on-foot undertaking, however.

And yes, Wazat, I've spent a considerable amount of time puzzling over your cache! I've found a few viable coordinates so far, which I'm assuming I must combine somehow, but without access to the checker in my hotel there was little I could do. But I'm watching the listing with interest, and I'll keep working on it... I'm unlikely to be FTF, but I'll be satisfied just to get FTS! (;

It's been more than 10 years since I've been in Natal (last time and every time before that was Sodwana Bay) and I've got to say that Durbs, CT and Gauteng are like three completely different countries for all practical reasons... :D

Hee hee... just looking at the geocheck stats on it so far. The closest anyone came was 30+ kilometers from the cache. Furtherest was Just under 9250 kilometers away.

Anyone else up for GC1NX3H... :D:D

Oops - my apologies!! Yes you are right...it is podcacher.com....I listened to the podcast, so had that in my mind. Please don't take offence to what I said, I was just stirring the pot and did not mean any harm!! I just didn't see anyone respond to the posts that besem made and when I was in contact with him he had said he was stuck at the airport and not able to get any caching done, as he had not received any response from the forum posts. So that is what I went along with...didn't mean that the KZN geocachers are nasty - just that they didn't seem to respond to a geocacher in need - that's all!! The KZN geocachers are a tight group - in the sense that they are very close and even have their own thread, etc. That is what I meant by "tight" - absolutely nothing wrong with that! It's like a brotherhood....if you know what I mean. I don't think we have that here in GP - or maybe we do and I'm just not aware of it?? Who knows?? But it is a great thing in any case......I was really just teasing!

Anyway, my comments were meant as a light hearted post and were not meant to offend anyone, so my sincere apologies if I did offend you and anyone else!! :D

Wazat...I was actually just teasing and stirring the pot because I didn't see anyone respond to besem's three posts requesting for assistance!! Gee whiz, but you okes took it so seriously....I think I will keep out of the Sandpit thread as it is clear that not many people who are on it have a sense of humour. I did apologise for offending anyone (and everyone) and I'm sure you are right that it was probably just a case of other commitments. I didn't know that besem had managed to bag in a KZN cache - way to go besem.

For all its worth, we thoroughly enjoyed caching in KZN and found some really cool caches!

Geo936, I will personally come up to Gauteng at the end of the month and place a KZN cache in GP to give you all something to do. Bwhaaa haa haa. Will teach you to mess with the big boys....

Hee hee hee, just joking. You guys are cool. I have so far enjoyed two events with the GP guys and they were just as great as the ones we have in KZN. We are not a tight knit bunch and do get along pretty well with others.

Now about that cache I may put up there.... mmm. Sounds like a plan.

Hey Wazat...as long as it is not a difficult mystery cache like your 50th in Durbs. Gosh, had a look at it and I'm very confused (but then I'm a chick and confused most of the time anyway - this is Silvia writing and not Rolf & Silvia  ). I really tried to read into the story, looked at the dates, but I am guessing one would need to research the cache hides that you refer to, in order to get more clues....am I right?

Link to comment

Silvia, and not Rolf.... haa haa... You may be on the right track..... then again. Maybe not. Maybe you had a look at the picture.... maybe the answer lies at the bottom... maybe not... maybe I am just confusing you more... maybe I should leave a similar cache in JHB..... maybe, maybe, maybe.....

Enough maybe's, I ask If, Who and When.

Just checking on the stats. Someone has got to within 500 meters of the correct co-ords, which is close but I am afraid.... not close enough. Hee hee hee.... Is it really as tough as I hoped it would be? I certainly hope so. :(;)

Just a reminder to get your TB ready for the race starting the 1st week of December 2009.

The simplest race rules to date!

A web page is already under construction - Thanks DRDM and Raider.

Race is open to every one who has a new TB.

Hi there...just a few of questions re. this TB race.

1. If you say "open to everyone" do you mean a cacher from Gauteng can enter, or is it just for KZN cachers or ex-KZN cachers?

2. Does the TB owner need to be present at the Event which kicks off the race?

3. Can the entrant be a geocoin, or is it strictly for TBs (dog tags) only?

Thanks!

1 ) The is open to EVERYONE - WE ARE NOT EXCLUSIVE

2 ) Yes Rule 1 - TB has to be at the event

3) The orginal idea was TB's only but if you have a new coin you want to enter it can however you will not have an advantage by doing so.

If you are quick there is a KZN cacher going the the JHB event this weekend and they can bring your entry back with them....

Look forward to recieving your entry

Okay that is GREAT!! Yes, we are the ones hosting the Event so we'll try our utmost to have a TB ready for DRDM & Raider to take back with them! Thanks.

A suggestion for the Sandpit Christmas function.

There seem to be some trackables in the Sandpit area that seem to have been doing "the Sandpit circuit" for some time. Perhaps the cachers attending the Christmas function can make an effort to pick up any trackables in the next 2 weeks which have been "stagnating" a bit with a view to getting them traveling a bit further afield.

Then any cachers at the event who will be going out of the Sandpit area for Christmas and caching, can move these trackables on.

But we don't want to strip the Sandpit bear of trackables and any cacher taking these trackable out of the area will do it on this on the basis that they return with a similar number of new trackables to put back onto "the Sandpit circuit".

This is obviously all subject to any particular trackables goals and objectives.

Just a suggestion.....

Hi everyone that are interested in attending the KZN Christmas event.

Due to the continuous rain for the past five days and after consulting the weather specialists, we have decided to move the venue to a different location to prevent confusion on Saturday.

Please visit the cache listing to get the new location.

Anything interesting happening in the Durban area between 1 - 16 March 2010??

We'll be down there to do some caching in and around Winkel Spruit.

Any trackables that needs to go to the Gauteng region let us know and we can move them along.

Hallo Hunters.

We live down in Toti, but I'm away (to gauteng) on training from 5 - 20 March.

Give me a ring when you down here, then we can get together for a beer before I leave for the bad traffic province...
